Looking for some examples of a cover of a Dylan song which is as far removed from the original as possible...in terms of arrangement, musical setting etc.

    thanks!

    “If Not For You”-George Harrison

Whereas Dylan’s version is rushed and uninspired, George put a lot of love and effort into his version. The main difference between Dylan’s and Harrison’s is that the ex-Beatle made it his, and it sounds so thoughtful and inspirational.

NY's Gulf War version of Blowin In The Wind is pretty "out-there"

This one is pretty far afield:

Jimi's is a pretty huge departure as well.

In terms of vocals, some of Bob Dylan's own live versions of his originals are further removed than the majority of covers by other artists.

We can’t finish this thread without mentioning Rod Stewart’s “Forever Young.” I’m not even sure if Rod’s song is actually a cover of Dylan’s song although the songwriting credit is listed (according to Wikipedia) as:

Jim Cregan, Kevin Savigar, Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart.

Rod’s song sounds slightly similar but it’s obviously a different arrangement with different lyrics.

Definitely this one. Possibly the greatest Dylan cover.
