He's not even the fifth Wilbury.

"Newly remixed by Paul McCartney's 2nd cousin's grandson who taught himself on a torrented copy of pro-tools, Glen McCartney! The 5th Beatle!"

It's just nepotism at this point. Giles couldn't mix his way out of a wet paper bag, and even then he'd probably try and make the paper bag fake stereo.

Yea and a shame those remixes aren’t on compact disc (the blu ray doesn’t count) or digital versions.

That's news to me, I though the current regular releases on all formats are the Martin's mix - eg the 2009 CDs are still current, albeit remastered by Giles.

I think you are confusing mixing with masterings,

Sure, that's why they hired him for Rocket Man.

Your obsessive blind hatred and name calling really says more about you than about Martin.

And the Stones hired Giles to remix Goats Head Soup. That's two other icons of rock royalty who have co-signed on his talent.

...and the fact that I'm just now finding out about this is further proof. I work at a record store. If they had done it for name recognition, they've done a lousy job promoting it.

I don’t love all of Giles’ remixes (“Getting Better” and the 2018 “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” aren’t very good), but I do like 99 percent of his work, and that’s more than I can say even for George Martin’s original mixes.

Giles’ remix of the Hollywood Bowl album is just spectacular. For that album alone, he deserves all the accolades he receives.

He's just lousy all around. It's shameful because The Who deserve so, so much better.

Giles was not on the remastering team behind the 2009 re-issues.

He's not a mastering engineer - furthermore, his role with the remixes is more that of producer than mix engineer.

I totally agree. For digital Who, I rely on the first issue CDs, or needle drops for my listening. The only two remixed albums I can take are By Numbers and Sell Out, but I still don't see a reason for those remixes either.

Looks like this thread has run its course.

It has repeatedly gone off topic, and we keep coming back to people bickering on and on about love or hatred Giles Martin.

This is why we cant have nice things.

    Closed until further notice.
