Yes you can. You can call Paypal and discuss it with them. I do it all the time if I'm in a situation like this (which has been rare compared to how many transactions I've actually gone through).

Recent experiences which show why it's important to communicate with sellers.

    1. Seller has only a handful of transactions. Asked to confirm the matrix info of the album and he replied with "Made in Germany". After explaining what it means, I never heard back. If a seller in need of padding his profile with feedback entries can't be bothered to take one minute to reply to a simple request about fundamental information of the item, it looks bad.

    2. Seller has thousands of transactions. Since he's located in Europe and the shipping policies are somewhat ambiguous, I asked for the shipping fees for a 5-LP order and enumerated the specific albums. He replied he was only able to locate 2 of them and quoted a high shipping price.

All was done by the order page (then by PayPal complaint). At the beginning no answer for a week circa, but his account was not suspended FWIK...

As written at the seller, I can fully understand the misunderstanding due to different system/ears/point of view.

Paid by PayPal of course, and dispute created directly on PayPal's website. Item sent back after seller's agreement, with the promise of a full refund when in his hands (LP in his hands from last Friday). For a full refund, I mean it is included the one I paid for the original shipping also. I can't accept to pay for a mistake not mine, hope this IMPORTANT detail will be taken in consideration from someone....if not, this will be the main frustration.

All is under PayPal's complaint. Now I have to wait a seller's reply. PayPal will reply to me by March 8th ....

Guess I'll need to be clearer.

YOU need to put a checkmark on the "Seller not responding?" checkbox. It's not automatically set so the seller is automatically suspended. Only *if* YOU put a checkmark there will the seller be suspended if he does not reply 3 days after you've checked that box.

Sounds like you assumed the shipping fees would be refunded but did not expressively confirm this prior to sending the LP back.

I believe it's part of discogs policy for a full refund including shipping in case of a return (original shipping fees- return shipping fees are different story).

I Feel I Should Receive A Refund For A Purchase I Made. Can Discogs Give Me A Refund?

The sentence is "we advise to find an agreement regarding the return shipping cost." Not their policy. Plus, PayPal's policy overrides the merchant's anyway.

That's why it's best to confirm. I haven't seen a seller agree to refund shipping fees back, especially one based in another country, but I guess it's possible.

You're confusing return shipping cost with orignal shipping cost. Giorgio is talking about orignal shipping
Cost if you read his story.

Edit- I am wrong I just read the policy. All it says really is "wild wild west"

I did not know, and I did not see the place to put the checkmark ... experience for the next time, thank you for telling me!

I have specifically requested a full refund of 90 euros, which means with my original shipment included ... I thought it was clear and sufficient...

So, it is possible that a seller was wrong to evaluate an object (he says that vinyl and the first song are visually NM and plays NM ... but in reality there is a scratch that ruins everything!), and the buyer is NOT reimbursed of his original shipment, paid in good faith believing the seller, then he loses money for an error that is not his mistake?

If so, the system is completely wrong!

I agree to an extent but unfortunately, the condition rating is a subjective and imperfect system. What is considered VG+ to you might not be to me and vice-versa. Sometimes, it's done in nefarious ways but sometimes, it's merely due to a sincere difference in opinion. Because of this, it can lead to some disappointment.

I remember an instance of one seller who is a member here who posted about a buyer's unreasonable expectations of how perfect vinyl should sound as he was new to it and expected it to sound as clean as a CD. In that scenario, the buyer wanted to return perfectly great NM LPs with possibly a couple of ticks due to the nature of vinyl, as he judged them to be unacceptable for the NM condition. I've bought sealed vinyl that were in worse condition! :)

Questions on three recent Discogs transactions.

    1. British seller offering limited edition Zeppelin CD single. Cost is 3 UKP plus 5.50 UKP shipping. 7 weeks later, item has not arrived. Seller gives 3 UKP refund before any agreement and I presumably eat the shipping costs. I have yet to respond or rate the order, what would most forum members do?

    2. American seller offering 2CD anniversary edition of De La Soul CD. When it arrives, it's the plain old single CD original release (same catalog number but otherwise very hard to confuse). Seller offers partial refund to keep the disc, or full refund on return. I write back saying I would like a full refund plus return shipping costs. No quibble in his reply giving return address. Should I expect my outlay to be returned in total, as I ask?

    3. American seller in Seattle offering a $3 classical CD autoquotes for Media Mail, $4. Upon shipping notification I ask for the tracking number, and am told there is none. I point out that MM includes tracking, whereupon seller replies that his shipping is faster. But I need the tracking so I know when things will arrive, and where they are if they are delayed. How should I rate this seller?

    1. Unless the seller has a tracking number proving otherwise, he might not have sent out the CD. No idea how long it should take for it to get to you but if it's been a couple of weeks past the date it should've arrived by now, I'd put a PayPal dispute for the full amount back.

    2. Send another message to him confirming the initial shipping costs will be refunded. If you have any doubts on who PayPal is likely to side with if the seller remains silent or ambiguous on refunding the shipping fees, call them.

    3. If the shipping is indeed faster, I'd let it slide. If it's the same amount of time or slower, I'd post a positive feedback entry (providing the item is as described) and elaborate on the shipping issue. I'd also go on record informing him this info is important and should be disclosed prior to shipping of the product.

Why worry? With Paypals 180 day file a complaint I don't stress ever. "If" you didn't use tracked shipping the wait can be long. I once had to wait 4 months to receive a CD from Australia.

You'll get all shipping costs refunded either by the seller himself taking the correct honorable route or if you have to file through Paypal.

That's your call my friend but I wouldn't be overly happy with the shipping switcheroo when it's not much more.

Here's someone on Discogs where you'd run like crazy in the other direction:

{**WE DO **NOT** TAKE, SEND, POST OR EVER WANT TO RECEIVE ANY PHOTOS or sound samples, period. Please don't ask. The answer is no. We're not in either the photography or the recording businesses. We've seen well over 25,000 photos already. Maybe one in a thousand (.0001) actually show anything about the actual condition of the record. That makes the whole subject a near total waste of time and effort. In addition, we have neither the equipment nor the expertise to take or provide photos.

**ALL ITEMS LISTED MATCH THE LISTING PAGE AND PHOTOS that Discogs shows there - unless otherwise specified in our listing.

*We DO NOT TEST PLAY records for free.* We will test play and rate any record on a 1-100 side A/B, overall scale for $10. Once we do that, they are not returnable-as we are not responsible for how a record plays on your turntable/system or to your ears. We buy and sell 20-30,000 records a year. There just isn't time to test play them. They are, however, unconditionally guaranteed to be in the condition we accurately rate, listed and thoroughly describe. We get back 1-2 records a month, max. Most of those are mistake orders. So it's obvious to us that we don't need to do that (test play records). The only reason we can think of that it might not yet be obvious to you is that you haven't bought any from us yet.

Our records are described from a CLOSE VISUAL INSPECTION only-unless our listing says otherwise. And you're free to ask us to test play a record. If we do, and you buy it, and it plays differently on your system, that's not our fault. AND IT'S NOT GOING TO BE RETURNABLE. Clean your stylus-or better yet, replace it (at least every year)-and pay a little more for a diamond tipped needle. They're well worth it.

We reserve the right to charge a restocking fee-particularly to discourage anyone with any ideas of trying to use us as a free lending library. We can and will charge home tapers, buyers who don't read our listing descriptions and such up to $20. service charge for returns of that nature.

**FURTHER, RE RETURNS, a $10. per album, restocking fee will be charged (deducted from any refund) on any third and subsequent album(s) returned by any single buyer in any given year-beginning after the any initial two items are returned. This is necessary to counteract the 'free lending library' and 'search for the elusive perfect record' (in an imperfect world) folks. We do not and will not play those games.

As per discogs rules, no returns or return requests will be accepted beyond 21 days after shipping (incl. to a PO box or mail station). *We do NOT accept or pay for any international returns, period. If negotiation is required, so be it. But any international return postage is solely at buyers expense and will NOT be reimbursed.

*We are naturally NOT responsible for-and will not give a refund for or pay to reship-any shipment a buyer does not pick up or does not receive due to a bad address given us.

    * We are NOT responsible for lost or stolen mail-if that happens, contact USPS and request a search and/or make a theft report. Mail theft is a felony that USPS take very seriously and they will investigate.

*We are also NOT responsible for any album shipped out of the country-after it leaves the U.S.. Slow customs and very slow, unreliable postal delivery in most all S. American countries, Italy, France, Russia and elsewhere is NOT of our doing and we are NOT responsible for any of it. If and when you have such problems, we recommend that you call your customs and postal service directly. And please don't wait for 4, 6 or 8 weeks after shipment to do so. The trail grows cold-and it becomes both more difficult and more complicated to pick it up.

*USPS will NOT search, make inquiries or track further any international shipment-except Priority International.

Buyer assumes full responsibility-the risk-regarding any sealed album or albums. Naturally, we have no way to know what is actually inside, nor its condition. We do, however, offer full and complete detailed descriptions of the covers-which should normally provide a good clue as to a records provenance.

*On a related subject IF YOU WANT YOUR ALBUM/S OUTSIDE THE COVER, then you will be solely responsible for it's/their safe delivery. The covers exist in order to protect the records-in shipping as well as at all other times. If you don't get that, you're just not thinking clearly.

All records are shipped cleaned by hand. If you do not want your record cleaned, please tell us that at the time of purchase and we'll gladly oblige.

Our advice is two fold-first: get it while you can. Second: take what you want and pay for it.

Sales is service, and we encourage any special requests.

    Please contact us first with any requests or problems.}

They've been around for close to 8 years - 313 positives, 3 negatives. So yeah...

Recently bought some Miles LPs, Blue Moods (80s OJC) and Miles in the Sky (OG 2 eye). They were both rated VG.
Blue Moods was covered in small surface scratches resulting in some surface noise, but overall pretty listenable so I wasnt that mad. Description states light paper scuffs on vinyl. Oh well on that one, was $10.

The one that pissed me off was Miles in the Sky, as I really enjoyed the album (at least what I heard). Seller rated the vinyl VG and put the description several light scuffs only. There were several deep scratches, 2 skips (which I fixed) and overpowering surface noise throughout all of side 1. Side 2 was covered in surface scuffs but the surface noise wasnt as bad (it was still bad though...). Makes me wonder if this should have been graded VG, I think it deserves a G+ grade, what do you guys think?

In the end I wasnt able to return them. Miles in the Sky did come in the shrink, which I took off. So I probably wouldn't be able to refund it. Blue Moods I can live with but damn. Goes to show that some people don't even look before they sell. Seller had 100% (300+ sales) feedback too
