After having reviewed all this, I'm not as excited as I used to be. I already have all the officially released material from '69, aside from this year's LP, and and the majority of it doesn't need upgrading (especially not the FTDs).
But I will be interested in hearing disc 6, since the first release of that show was horribly mixed and all but eliminated Larry Muhoberac. I'm trusting the new mix is superior. The Collectors Gold material will undoubtedly sound better too.
This box set makes it clear that the '69 recordings have been picked pretty clean. During the past two decades Ernst Jorgensen has done an excellent job of releasing what presumably were the best concerts and cherry-picking the rest. What wasn't released was probably left the behind for good reasons, perhaps because Elvis was so consistently good during these shows that there isn't a lot of variety between them--the quality is great throughout, so if you've heard two or three shows you've heard them all.

Have you read the liner notes from various Legacy releases over the past several years (Elvis Country, Elvis At Stax, Today, Way Down In The Jungle Room)? Attention to detail and accuracy are not priorities.

  3. This was posted on another site by a different poster than me, so full credit to that person:

Crap. That's not an insignificant amount of material. I'm almost glad that this isn't being issued on CD. I've got all three FTDs from these sessions -- but were there a box set collecting everything in one package, chronologically, I'm guessing that at some point I would buckle, and purchase that puppy.

So -- basically they're saving me from myself. And I thank them.

I follow your reasoning but I don't agree with it.

Not everyone have the various CD's and special edition vinyl sets.
Some of them are scarce and pricey. It is a mistake to assume that
everybody already has everything that's been released.

Put the complete sessions into a CD box-set for customers who don't
have it or want to have it in chronological order. Additionally, it would
be nice to have the American Sound sessions all in one tidy set. I for
one would value that and pay well for it.

The customers who already have the sessions on various CD's can
just purchase the tracks they don't have via download | torrent or
    whatever.

Pre-ordered the Graceland Exclusive edition of the upcoming vinyl release, that looks pretty neat.

As for the CD set, I'll wait until a better price point comes along and then decide. My days of being a completist for this stuff are behind me, I don't need every live show under the sun.

Well, don’t be surprised if FTD one day issues this entire session chronologically. Not a guarantee by any means, but a possibility now that the label is venturing into complete sessions releases.

Probably Matt Ross-Spang. Hold onto those Anesini engineered FTD releases!

Matt Ross-Spang has done all the Vegas shows for this set, unknown on the American Sound music (which to be honest, unless it gets a physical release I'm not really interested in - the FTD Classic Albums cover a lot of ground).

I would be very interested (I like the set list) if they picked "the best" of the shows and put out a 1 CD version...………….

For retail, personally I'd have combined the two concepts and done something for 1969 similar to what Young Man With The Big Beat did for 1956.

As nice as it is for the deep fan to get all 11 Vegas shows in one hit, consistently mixed and mastered it really just becomes a shelf archive rather than an "album project" that you pull out to listen to.

FTD should give us the exclusive tracks on one disc for the American Sound stuff.

    I've changed my mind.

All of the American Sound sessions should be contained within one encompassing collection.

I love the three FTD issues of this material, but the layout just doesn't work for me. You've got different alternate takes of the songs scattered all over the place. I'd much rather have everything in one place. Chronologically.

Do it right. They can have my money. Again.

Ah, too bad. Does anyone have a list of complete releases from this set of shows that Anesini mixed? Discogs is no help. I know of Hot August Night and Live in Vegas - are there others?

I agree except for the last sentence.
I do pull shows out and listen to them.
I enjoy listening to Elvis concerts, one after another often.
The 1969 thru 1972 concerts are my favorite period.

Likewise, I enjoy listening to studio sessions including the progression
of takes. I like to follow Elvis' creative process. 1969 thru 1972 are the
    most interesting period.

Putting all the professionally recorded concerts into yearly collections
and the studio sessions into well-organized box-sets is precisely what
I want to listen to. Right now they're scattered all over the place. It
would be nice to have them in one neat and tidy box-set.

But a download only is just ... well, it's disappointing is all I can say.

This feels to me like an industry experiment. Put out a digital only release and a CD release of material from the same era, with both sets having a limited amount of previously unreleased material. Compare the sales and take a position on whether to wind down CD production.

I would rather have this the other way round. Complete studio sessions, chronologically, with detailed liner notes, on CD in a nice box. We’re talking here about some of the most important sessions in the history of recorded music. Live shows (where presumably the fidelity of the recordings is lower quality) as a download.

I never got into FTD but have bought all the legacy reissues and the big boxes along the way. I can’t justify £80 on a set of CDs with so little variation. I may buy the digital release of American Sound.

And the more I look into this, the more baffling I find it that they hardly talk about the studio sessions at all in the press release. Can’t even be bothered to provide a track listing.

This was done on the 1970 album release In Person at the International.
The Legacy 2-CD edition is cheap and highly recommended, but the FTD 2-CD
edition is the absolute best. So it's been done. But few people are satisfied by it.

This is exactly the same thing I was thinking. I hope this box set sells like hot cakes, because I think you are right on the money here. This is no coincidence to me that they are throwing these two very important collections out there in two distinct formats. I have already been speculating that the Elvis Live 69 box set could be one of the last deluxe CD box sets we see on Elvis. I really hope the sales are much higher than they anticipate, so it does not become the last deluxe CD box set we get on Elvis.
