Before the film was released MGM requested Hal Kanter to start writing a sequel, An Armful of Girls, with Hope as a married man chased over Europe by titled ladies. This was never made.

I remember someone telling me in the mid '90s that Lucas was going to have Kenneth Branagh as a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi for the SW prequels. They got made but not with KB.

As I kid in '82 or '83 I remember reading talk about a sequel to ET, where ET would return to Earth in order to save the world from a disease.

I wish Richard Linklater had made a sequel to Dazed and Confused in the '90s, with all the same characters/actors. I was highly disappointed in the spiritual sequel that came out a few years ago, Everybody Wants Some.

There are a whole slot of direct to video Disney movies that got cancelled like an Aristocats sequel set during the British Invasion
and a sequel to Dumbo (which we sorta got with the live action version that expands the story).

Even further back, after the success of Disney's Snow White, Disney had plans for a short sequel to Snow White. This was conceived due to left over animations from the original namely a soup eating scene and a scene in which the dwarfs craft a bed for Snow white.

The Magnificent Ambersons "remake". I believe Welles had the idea of re-shooting the part where all the characters were older. They all were still alive at the time and about the right age. That would have been . . . well . . . magnificent.

Also, I think Anthony Burgess's Napoleon Symphony was going to be made into a film by Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick opted for Barry Lyndon instead.

John Updike once said the best thing that can happen to a writer is to be paid for the film rights to his novel and for the movie to never be made.

I heard that, I was on the floor! And I thought I was the only one who did impressions of Grady Sutton and Sig Ruman!

It really is remarkable that so little of Burgess’ incredible oeuvre has been turned into films. Francis Coppola optioned One Hand Clapping, but Tremor of Intent and the Enderby Cycle could really work, too

    Sgt Rock with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I read the book years ago, in the 70s. I think the book was “banned” during WW2, but I’m nit sure.

According to info on the flip side of a a Dirty Harry CD I have, Sinatra was first approached to do that movie. He was interested, and the script was rewritten for him, but it didn’t work out for some reason. Then Steve McQueen was approached. Again he was interested, the script was rewritten, and he had to drop it due to illness. Finally Eastwood was approached. He liked the original script.

I think “They Shoot Horses......” Was remade in the late 60s, early 70s. I’m pretty sure I seen a movie at that time with that title. It was about a Endurance dance contest during the Great Depression. It had some name actors, but I can’t recall who.
