    Wr All Stand Together:
Those who lambast Paul for recording songs like this forget to think about his great ambitions. Not just anyone gets something like this accomplished.
Besides that it was a smart move; it’s a unit-shifting proposition following a failed grand-scale project.
It’s late fall, Xmas around the corner: Ka-Ching!
That’s not sarcasm; Paul is the man who can do this and why shouldn’t he? For what it is it’s a great success and I still do love it with my 46 years!

We All Stand Together is very good for what it is. Unfortunately, it wasn't what Paul's image needed at the time.

Might as well wrap up it’s b-side...

We All Stand Together (Humming Version):
It’s a charming variation on the a-side. Not much going on here, but it’s cool for this single.

    Spies like us

This movie theme ain t a favorite of mine. In fact close to the opposite. A weak melody and the terrible eighties-production makes this effort the opposite of Pauls other soundtrack to a Spy-movie.
There are many reasons I like McCartneys music. Unfortunately none of them are on display here. The one redeeming part maybe is that the song features some loud guitar but in the end it doesn t help much

    Song facts

“Spies Like Us” is the title song to the 1985 Warner Bros. motion picture of the same name, starring Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon. It was written and performed by Paul McCartney, and was a top-ten hit in the United States in early 1986, reaching No. 7 on the singles chart, making it McCartney’s final solo top-10 hit in the U.S. to date. It also reached #13 in the UK.

The minute-long outro is uptempo while the title is being sung repeatedly. When the movie Spies Like Us hit the theaters, producers opted to play the outro first in the closing credits before playing the entire song.

The video for the song, directed by John Landis (who also directed the movie), was not aired by the BBC because Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase appeared in it playing instruments. British labour rules prohibit non-musicians from performing in videos, and Aykroyd and Chase did not actually play on the record, though both have worked as professional musicians. The video ends with McCartney, Chase and Aykroyd walking across Abbey Road, parodying the famous album cover.

McCartney, the song, and its associated film were all referenced in the Self song “Out With a Bang”

Ooh ooh what do you do
No one else can dance like you
    So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us
Hey hey what do you say
    Someone took your plans away
    So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us

    Hey don't feel afraid
    Of an undercover aid
    There's no need to fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us

    Spies like us

We don't know the meaning of fear
We play every minute by ear
One for all and all for one
    Everybody's on the run
Especially at this time of year

Ooh ooh what do you do
No one else can dance like you
    So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody got spies like us

Hey hey what do you say
No one else can look that way
    So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody got spies like us

We get there by hook or by crook
    We don't do a thing by…

A little fun track. As 80s as 80s can be. Sometimes first takes are great but not necessarily these lyrics. Paul's style in the video is terrible.

    Spies Like Us:
Not a big fan of this.
A directionless bit of 80’s bombast.
I even like the b-side better.

Sorry to say I find most things about this song terrible
The movie ain t very good either
As will show when we get to the next album this period ain t my favorite one of McCartney. He was not the only artist who somehow got lost in this time.

'Spies like Us ' is a crappy movie and the song doesn't help it one bit.

I am very much excited about the upcoming chapter. One of the view things I think we are on polar opposites of.

    Spies Like Us: 2.5/5

Over simplified coochie-coochie-goo-goo lyrics and a song that crescendos to ear-piercing vocals and guitar. The song probably would have been much better if it didn't have the long run time to keep pace with the credit roll at the end of the film. A tighter edit would have helped.

The only thing that truly would have helped was a better song.

Come now, it really isn't THAT bad.

It's a silly song for a silly comedy. On some level, he was trying to write the song to fit the feel of the film.

Another full-blown Live and Let Die would have just been out of place (but enjoyed!).

I can agree that the movie and the song are of about the same quality

    I like silly 80s comedies. :)

    This one's no exception.

What I don't like is the next album. Haven't listened to it in fifteen years since last week. In fact it's the only Macca album that I don't really know - in contrast to all the other albums I played a zillion times.

Chevy I can handle in small doses.
A bit too smug for his own good.

I much prefer his arch-enemy Bill Murray. ;)

    My Carnival
B-side to Spies but of course recorded in New Orleans 1975. A nice professor longhair pastiche
    But
Being a great admirer of New Orleans RnB nothing beats the original Longhair, Meters, Toussaint and all the others

I'm getting a real negative vibe that something bad is about to happen on this thread. Something real bad. And nasty.
Well....so be it. Macca brought it on himself and there's no one else to blame.

    My Carnival: 2/5

The 80s production and years of overdubs pretty much wash this song out to boredom sea. Actually, it’s more of a jam than a song. Good to see it was used as a b-side only where such things are somewhat excusable. The remix/extended version is pretty bad.
