I realised that in my vast music collection i seem to missed buying any Nick Drake. Strange but true.

I bought, via amazon, on the Back to Black label, Pink Moon and Made to love Magic. I am REALLY impressed by the quality of the pressings and the packaging. Very high quality and far from expensive. Needless to say, the music is sublime.

I know all the songs have been mastered for SACD, so... Why not?

I thought the original Island Master CDs sounded better!

All the releases sound OK though and anything by Nick Drake is worth listening to.

The Nick Drake trust was probably told not to release them so they didn't bother. I doubt there was any thought put into the decision.

I'm not too interested in stereo SACD or Blu-Ray alone, since all of his studio albums were released as Hi-Res downloads.

Now if there are 5.1 mixes that could be released on SACD or Blu-Ray, those would be an instant buy for me.

Silly in away re; SACDs as they could already been out for 5 years now, then 5.1 BD ..vinyls etc ...could have followed.

I have the Fruit Tree vinyl original box illustration covers and a late 1979 Island ( blue label) Pink Moon both sound great.

If you bought the box versions of the 3 albums you do get a high res download code. Not sure about the standard issue. The sacd best of is very good but as posted above I doubt we will get sacd now for the complete albums. Blu-ray was listed for Five Leaves Left but I don't think it ever happened. I bought the expensive version of the book to get the BBC session. Perhaps that will get a proper release one day.

The Nick Kent article in NME from 1975 "Requiem For A Solitary Man" is what got me started on Drake, along with the Antilles reissues the same year. Up until then he wasn't even a footnote for most people.

He was the only uk writer who seemed in touch with the dark side of pop genuis with his articles on Syd Barrett, Keith Richards, Brian Wilson...and of course Nick Drake.

I remember those other articles, the Brian Wilson was particularly fascinating. He also wrote a devastating one on John Martyn. Pretty sure some of those are compiled in "The Dark Stuff".

After buying my recent AAA Pink Moon vinyl remaster, I will never be able to fully love the digital versions. I'm curious, though, about the damage to the master tapes from his first two albums. It must be rather severe, but in the audio dreamland of my mind, Plangent Audio Process swoops in and makes a miraculous recovery. But if the tapes weren't stored properly, that may just be wishful thinking.
