Sad to hear. One of the first albums I ever bought (Columbia House, 13 for 10 cents) was "Mott." Loved it.

I used to love those mid-thigh high platform boots he wore on stage in the Ariel Bender years. I believe it was Campbell Devine's "All the Young Dudes" bio where Overend said that he bought them from Dennis Dunaway.

I loved 'em when Dennis wore them too.

Overend Watts was an original member of Mott the Hoople even before their glam rock days. I saw them on one of their first tours and loved them but lost interest once Mick Ralphs and Ian Hunter left the band.

    "Oh dear.

My lovely, eccentric mate - Peter Overend Watts - has left the building.

    Devastated."

    - Ian Hunter

Godspeed Pete. I thank the universe that Ian is still rolling on.

Really sad news. A big part of the soundtrack of my youth. Aw who am I kidding I never did grow up - and I have bands like Mott The Hoople to thank for that. RIP Pete.

How sad. Mott The Hoople were a great band. I've grown up hearing them. My Dad likes them a lot and saw them live in the Island era.

RIP Overend Watts. His music always gave me joy and will continue to give me more for a long time yet.

Of course, Mott The Hoople also gave Queen their big break and both had a long lasting mutual respect.
