And only a few years ago he was doing the South Coast Walk. See his book.

Mott changed my life - put me on to Bowie and VU.

    RIP.

RIP. He had the look, the name, the hair...everything was so cool about him in a lovable Spinal Tap way.

Another legend gone way too soon.

    Sad news.

I became a fan as soon as I heard At The Crossroads on the Nice Enough To Eat sampler. Such a long time ago.

    RIP

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

His song writing on 'Shouting And Pointing' was of the highest quality. 'Storm', 'Collision Course', 'See You Again'.... Outstanding tracks. A great writer.

Read that on Facebook yesterday....makes me sooooo glad I made the trip from Boston in '09 to see one of their reunion shows in Hammersmith...bought his book "The Man Who Hated Walking" last year, it'll be a bittersweet read now....agree with Andy Smith above, those two post-Hunter albums are really great....

Overend was his real middle name.
His parents must have envisioned a career in the footlights for him.

Always loved his bass playing on the early Mott lp's, especially my all time favorite Half Moon Bay. His playing reminded me of Greg Ridley and Chris Hillman: inventive, creative but always melodic and never obtrusive.

Those years on the road certainly take time off the end...

I never heard them until a friend leant me Mott the Hoople Live.. this in about 1976 or so.

That album was so bloody good I went 'round to all the shops buying up everything by them I could find.

    RIP Overend.

I did see him play in the last version of Mott with.. those other guys. I watched him the entire time with the big boots and the huge white firebird bass.

    That's the rhythm section gone.

Too bad. My favourite band back from when I was only six years old.

I saw that email. Seemed like he was at peace with things. Pretty funny in spots, too. Damn shame.

Oh if my wheel could take another turn
and if my life replaced itself again,
I wouldn't want a single thing to change.
Oh it's been good, though it's been strange.
And if my dreams were willing to come true,
oh I would not even try to force them through.
I'm sure there's things I've missed, that others preached.
The goals they reached, they weren't for me.
    Rest in peace,
even though the worries seem to mount,
    don't let them count.
    Rest in peace.
Throw all those miles and paper smiles away.
You make willow pattern pictures through the rain.
And swallow when your heart begins to breathe,
just like the birds, do what they please.
'Cause you know, we ain't gonna be here all that long
and when I go I want to know I sung.
If there's a road ahead, I'll jump right in.
Just got to win, this is my hymn.
    Rest in peace,
even though your worries seem to mount,
    don't let them count.
    Rest in peace.
    Rest in peace.

  20. As an aside, I was surprised when I learned that "Overend" was his real middle name. I thought it was likely a nickname related to some drunken misadventure or something. :)

If you've not heard it yet, check out 'My Regeneration' (released a couple of years back). It had P.O.W's seal of approval!

I have Pete's book sat on the shelf, unread. It's just been bumped up the list, naturally.

Sad to hear. My feeling on Overend and all the many others who have passed; their spirit lives on in their music, as long as I live and listen to their music a part of them is still alive.
