I have a DVD of this band in concert. The mandolin player, Sharon Gilchrist is playing a Gilchrist. Coincidence. GREAT show. Have to look it up and see if it's available legally.
Speaking of bluegrass, have all of the Steve Hoffman members who appreciate musical parody heard this?
oh yes, quite a bit. I also have an album from the early to mid 80's that has you credited on theb back. I forget they guys name but it something like "Flatpicking champ of 83" recorded in WV I think. Is that you?
That is a good one, is it the WLEX recording from 75? I found a clip of Tony and Same in the Bluegrass Alliance from 71 recently that is pretty crazy. Just a couple kids.
Yes, the PBS broadcast. Here's one of my all-time favorite bluegrass songs, "The Walls of Time," co-written by Peter Rowan and Bill Monroe. If I'm not mistaken, Bill never recorded that tune until after Pete left the band and Roland White stepped in on guitar, then they finally recorded it. In this video, Pete gives a little background:
As far as I know they only officially released video is a brief clip on the "Bluegrass Journeys" you posted from.
Hmm, the DVD I have is Pro Shot if I recall. Definitely a SBD recording on the audio end. I'll check it out tonight....
I miss Tony Rice's musicianship and albums. I wish we'd have a few more of the Tony Rice Unit-styled music.
How can I forget this one??? Listening to it right now, remastered by Steve Hoffman: "Don Reno & Red Smiley-Strictly Instrumental" Rural Rhythm RHT-292 Also, I like "Rural Rhythm Banjo Collection-25 Bluegrass Banjo Favorites." RHY-300, also remastered by Steve Hoffman.
We at KPMI-AM AM 1300 The Legends do honor the heritage of Bluegrass past and present by airing "Into The Blue" every Saturday.
Now playing on my (cd) rig: Jerry Garcia & David Grisman... Shady Grove. Hmm, this needs to be played more often round' here.
