I'm really looking forward to this! I hope it does justice to Sinatra's recording (and thus does justice to my hopes)!
Will be anxious to hear it. I wasn't totally for the Angel Eyes single I heard. Seemed to be a little on the loud side. Orchestra seemed drier on the echo and the echo applied to Sinatra's voice was different. Not spread as wide stereo wise.
Variety has a track premiere: Hear Frank Sinatra’s Unfinished ‘Lush Life,’ Finally Released After 60 Years (EXCLUSIVE)
@CWillman: Nice job on the “Lush Life” article. Thanks! I expect the video will be available non-exclusively on YouTube tomorrow?
Thanks... Yeah, for anyone who can't see the video through the link in the article, I'm told it is set to go live/wide tonight at 9 PT/midnight ET.
Barnes and Noble Union Square only had ONE copy of "Standing Room Only" the day it came out. Saw Tony Bennett at his book signing there Oct 1. They have many copies of his CD/LP and book. This is the difference....we are without the living, breathing presence of Sinatra. That cannot be recreated or duplicated. If there is only ONE copy of OTL there Oct. 19.....something is terribly wrong.
Listening to clean, clear copy of this ("Lush Life"), I am on the fence as to whether or not it would have ever really fit on on OTL. Let's start with that piano tinkle intro....
No, I agree. But it's a beautiful feel. It would have been a fantastic fit for something like Song For Young Lovers.
In the Learn-Something-New Department: “The girls I knew had sad and sullen gray faces—with distingué traces […]” DISTINGUÉ? All these years, I thought those girls’ faces had DISTANT GAY traces! No wonder Frank put it aside.
dis·tin·gué [ˌdēstaNGˈɡā] ADJECTIVE having a distinguished manner or appearance. "he was lean and distingué, with a small goatee"
Surely doesn't fit in with the rest of the positive-themed tunes. And it would need to be stripped down to the bear-bones of a chamber music group.
I think we should leave Mitch Miller out of this. Which reminds me of this interesting on-topic fact: When ‘Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely’ hit No. 1 on the Billboard album chart on October 4, 1958, the album it knocked from the top position was ‘Sing Along with Mitch’ on Columbia. (Talk about karma.)
Always loved the arrangement or what can be heard of it. The piano tinkle intro is a bow to Bix Beiderbecke's "In a mist" recording.
I mean, it's a song written from the perspective of someone who is very financially privileged. It always gave me a rarified air, like if Fred Astaire had had an existential crisis after striking out with Ginger Rogers and developed a serious alcohol issue.
Thanks ! it's pretty cool to hear this is such Quality .... I'm still on the fence if a "Need" this new release ........ looking forward to reviews here once people get copies
I have a similar problem, but mine is "I cannot for the life of me find a brick and mortar store near me!"
The only national store remaining that may carry it is Barnes & Noble. They have been pretty good at getting in Sinatra releases.
