Hmmm...I dunno! But I'm nostalgic for the past so maybe that helps.

They actually have some of the Flash Gordon props on display at the Christmas Story House Museum. If you ever get a chance to go in the house be sure to visit the museum across the street they have some cool things to see there from the movie.

My local branch of HMV didn't have a single copy of A Christmas Story in stock today. I picked up a copy of Scrooged instead.

I'm not sure I have actually seen the entire movie. I may have or else I watched with remote in hand (I tend to have a short attention span when watching TV).
For me it came out after my time (just when I graduated from college) but the nostalgia is from before my time - so no connection on either end.

For a while, at a local theater, a play version alternated years with a play version of A Christmas Carol. But they have not had Story lately (just Carol every year).

I am not a big fan of Its a Wonderful Life either.
On the other hand I watch multiple versions of A Christmas Carol every year. Go figure.

I never got it either, I don't find it remotely entertaining.

Even better when Ralphie says them during the fight.

Yes, both are amazing films that transcend mere art. We are lucky to have them. I can't imagine not being touched by their viewing.

For pure entertainment, I also love "Elf" and "Christmas Vacation." And of course, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Frosty the Snowman" are classics.

I don't get it but I never grew up with it since it has never been a part of the rotation of Christmas movies that are regularly shown on Australian TV. I have only really become aware of it in the past 5 years with the fairly large amount of coverage and discussion it gets online.

Perhaps I'm not the only one left to have not known until tonight that Ralphie was also Ming Ming in ELF.

Maybe you just had to be there. When I was about Ralphie's age our family was living in Detroit (hey, it was a nice place back in the 50's!). I can remember the cold, the snowsuits, the decorations, the icicles, the stores, the furnace and all of the silly stuff that Ralphie and friends (and enemies!) did. Same for my folks and my younger sister. It even reminded my folks some of their Christmas' in Chicago from the 30's and 40's. None of us had neighbors like the Bumpus until we moved to the Los Angeles suburbs. In fact the neighbors in Detroit were nice people who had a strong sense of community.

Yeah, it will be outdated in the near future but that is the future's loss. Kids will never be that innocent again. I'll enjoy it until I shuffle off this mortal coil.

He also is the one who tells Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon that their flight is cancelled in Four Christmases.

Besides his cameos, he was a produce of both movies.

As more people cut the cable and satellite cord, the more likely the viewing of holiday movies as part of tradition will fade. It's definitely a fun movie that evokes nostalgia for a simpler time.
