Their releases go in different directions. This one's the go-to for rainy days...
Dark, yet shimmery/translucent/transcendent...deep lyrics, beautiful sounds...mesmerizing.
Darklands - Jesus and Mary Chain

Here's music video for "Happy When It Rains" w/link for full album.
If you've never given them a listen, do yourself a favor & do it on a "rainy day"!
Then, listen to Automatic on a sunny one! & to entire catalog, from there!

I got these LP's one year in June right when school let out for summer 1971 or 72? We had about a week of rain and some flooding so they always remind me of rainy days by the stereo.

I regard Kate Bush's "Hounds Of Love" to be a quintessential rainy day album. For me, the overall mood of this superb album has always evoked eloquent images of freezing cold rain swept weather, spirited with Kate's introspectively vivid moments of shine. It sounds utterly sublime when played on a rainy day.

If you are feeling nostalgic, the maudlin moment of beauty that is The Cascades´ "RHYTHM OF THE RAIN". Lovely and timeless.

    my favorite rainy day albums:

The Style Council - "Café Bleu"

Swing Out Sister - "Somewhere Deep In The Night"
Paul McCartney - "Chaos & Creation In The Backyard"
David Gilmour - "On An Island"
Miles Davis - "My Funny Valentine. In Concert"
Dave Brubeck - "Jazz Impressions Of Japan"
Herbie Hancock - "Speak Like A Child"
Milton Nascimento - "Clube da Esquina"
Milton Nascimento - "Milagre dos Peixes"
    Popol Vuh - "Hossiana Mantra"
    Cluster - "Sowiesoso"
    Cluster & Eno - "Cluster & Eno"
Brian Eno - "Music For Films"
Brian Eno & Harold Budd - "Ambient II. The Plateaux Of Mirror"
Keith Jarrett - "The Koln Concert"

Actually, anything with Tracey Thorn's voice on it and most ECM jazz records fit perfectly with a rainy day.

Wasn't That a Mighty Storm (aka Galveston Flood) recorded by both Eric Van Schmidt and Tom Rush. Von Schmidt found it in a recording in the Library of Congress collection by "Sin-Killer" Griffin made in a Texas prison by Alan Lomax.

A gray rainy day sometimes requires some Townes Van Zandt...

    Some days some Sinatra...

Some days some Van Morrison, Shirley Horn, Miles, Ella or Lou Reed.

Often some Amelia Rodriguez or some Otis Redding.
