    Hi,

I sold a copy of the following record and the buyer said that some of the songs appeared to be either mono mixes or simply muddy. Has anyone had experience with this pressing? It's the first US pressing from the Scranton plant, I believe.
The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

    Thanks,

    Fake Stereo on 3 tracks.

The only AAA fully Stereo version is the German one from around 1971 onwards with A1/b3 matrix's.

Yes, the last three tracks are bogus stereo. It appears mids and highs on one channel bass on the other. This was a letdown for me back in the day when just discovering stereo.

Thanks. I'm not sure what to do. I think he wants a refund, but it sounds like the problem is with the original recording, not me passing on a defective disc of some kind.

Not defective at all. That's what was released by Capitol in 1967.

Thanks everyone. I always insist that buyers be satisfied, but this does feel like a different situation. Also, he's comparing the record to the 2009 remaster, which I already explained would sound different by definition of it being remastered. Thanks again.

Can I have a refund because my old Asia-Alpha's mastering and recording sounds like poop on ice? :D

One related question. Any thoughts on the sound quality of the 1969 US version with the green label? I just listened to a copy and I think it sounded better, but it's possible it's just in better condition. To be clear, I only listened to All You Need Is Love.

100% full stereo MMT was not available in 1969. It might be a better pressing, but still has the same masters, i.e. fake stereo tracks.

Advice, don't sell him an original copy of Yesterday and Today then.

I was going through my discogs re beatles, and found I hadn't a MMT lp.

Recently, got a Japanese one. It's very nice, wasn't expensive, seems new.

I guess I'll have to play it. I'd have expected true stereo here. What are the chances, anyone?

    Fair enough, ta.

I do have the double 7" UK anyway. Oh, and the double cd version too.

    It sucks.

To get true stereo, go for a German Apple pressing or the 2012 LP. I forget what the proper matrix numbers are for the correct German pressing. I’m sure someone will be kind enough to provide it.

Avoid all US Capitol and Apple LPs as well as the U.K. version (not EP). Also, steer clear of the Mobile Fidelity LP.

Among all my copies of MMT, I have the Capitol Green label, the Parlophone 1976 Gold vinyl, and the first MFSL vinyl and they ALL are sourced from that same muddy version. The only different is the MFSL version has the cleanest muddy sounding version of those three. So, if you wish to hear muddy with less surface
    noise from the vinyl...

Apart from the German LP and before the 1988 digitally sourced LPs, were there any all true stereo vinyl versions of this album? I know there was a 1973 UK cassette that was all true stereo, but then the 1976 UK LP reverted to the inferior US master.

Perhaps there may be a Danish or Dutch pressing of MMT using German parts. I’m not sure.

...the remaining three songs (one of which is also fake stereo) of side two (which is where the fake stereo tracks are found)doesn't sound bad at all.

Actually, I know for a fact that some of later (early to mid 1970's) Israeli pressings have German matrix numbers A-1/ B-3.

Yeah, but that butcher cover is so ugly. I returned mine for a nice one of the Lads with suitcases.

Except for the King Lear portion of "I Am The Walrus" which starts from the "Sitting In An English Garden" forward to the end of the track which is rechanneled Stereo.

It does have a stereo mix of "Strawberry Fields" not available many other places (also on the U.S. 1967-1970 LP).

I have a German reissue MMT (in think its 1973) with the same A1/B3 matrix. Is that considered the same True stereo as the original 1971 German MMT?

I thought the true MMT German Stereo was the original first 1971 pressing?
