Boy does Wilco know how to generate zero buzz... One single released when they announced in mid-July and nothing much since.... I'm surprised. less than a month to go...
They've been on the road in Europe for the past week, and they are playing a bunch of the new songs — about 7 or so per show. I'm sure it was a strategic decision to slow play these debuts by having them in Norway, but I agree things have felt pretty quiet. I would have thought they would have released another studio track or a video or something. (From my perspective, I don't mind, since I am the kind who likes to hear the whole album together when it debuts anyway.) On the other hand, you can never count out a surprise early stream from Jeff. They could just drop the whole album on us at any time before October. So we'll see. In the meantime, cool interview with Jeff from the other day about his catalog: Jeff Tweedy on the Best and Worst of Wilco
As I have told friends, I much prefer "strange/loud" Wilco to "soft/acoustic" Wilco. Much more interesting.
Has Wilco not released another track from this record? I've seen a couple interviews, but not too much promo for this record yet...
I agree Sukierae has some stellar songs! And I wish they’d branch out from The Loft and push themselves a lot harder in the studio. All of the later records sound the same, including the Tweedy solo ones, and from the track I’ve heard, so will this one. The last record that sounded exciting to me was The Whole Love. Remember when you’d never know what a new Wilco record would sound like? Also, while I’m lamenting - I really miss Jay Bennett and his genius contributions.
I thought the same thing! Some really great artists involved, will be purchasing that Uncut edition for sure.
Tweedy is pretty much a boring dad these days and his music reflects that. As a fan of his music I am disappointed his well has run dry. As a fan of him staying alive, I’m glad he cleaned up and seems to be in a good place. He has a nice fan base of aging hipsters to keep him in the Loft and his book was excellent. Now if he will just get a damn haircut...
Wilco needs to camp out a Sonic Ranch in Marfa with Danger Mouse producing, start jamming and come up with something that sounds different.
Wasn’t impressed with first single. I see nothing has been released since. Lord, how boring (so far )
Now $21 on amazon.ca vinyl and $13 CD. Had to order the vinyl. Pre-ordered the CD when it was $28+. The pre-order price guarantee should come in handy on this one!
Better than what I've heard from Tweedy in a while. Sounds like it could have fit on The Whole Love pretty easily. Still wishing he'd up the rock.
To me, this sounds interchangeable with the Schmilco material. Not bad, really, but not very exciting either. I give them points for soldiering on.
The most recent issue of Tape Op magazine is significantly devoted to interviews with Jeff/Spencer Tweedy and coverage of Wilco and The Loft recording techniques via Tom Schick interview, etc. Read Tape Op #132 | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.
I meant to say, my favorite part of the video is when Mikael goes into my local record store, Laurie’s Planet of Sound (in Lincoln Square). That’s a real employee in the video too. I just bought the new Pixies record from him the other day!
