Ken Burns must have mentioned Milton Brown (who co-founded the genre of Western swing) if Bob Wills got extensive screen time. If so, that's pretty cool.

    He did.

I'm aware of Brown and the other fathers of the genre. Wills took it and ran with it.

:yikes: ...That is a pleasant surprise.

If Milton Brown had lived, he would have run further with it; but we'll never know.

    No thanks.

PBS' usual MO is 'with your contribution of xyz to PBS, you get this gift by way of thanks,' it's not a straight sale.

If one had paid any attention to the fact that the documentary ends in the mid-90s, one wouldn’t have to wonder whether or not Carrie Underwood is featured.

I'd like to add just a side note to this discussion.

I am happy to see Ray Benson as an interviewee.

Man knows a little about Bob Wills.

    e.g.:
San Antonio Rose - Asleep at the Wheel (Western Standard Time)

I am looking forward to the segment on Hank Snow and Dave Dudley.

Because as pointed out in Burns' very own documentary, country music is for imbeciles and morons.

    :agree:

  10. Was this after you sat down and said "Gimme a Ken Burns"? :D

People actually watch this as it airs?

Buy a Roku - get PBS app - watch when you want. ;)

...and the episodes are also "unlocked" and free after they air on the PBS app.

Marty and I are about the same age. Just understand that if you still got that much hair in your sixth decade you flaunt it!!!!

Agreed. I don’t see why it isn’t on once a week every Sunday like they do with Masterpiece. It’s too much one after another.

I really enjoyed the Little Jimmy Dickens segments. I saw him back in 83 or so. He pulled up in a big old Caddy with a big haired redhead and his band, pulling a trailer. He had driven from Nashville to a little crossroads called Linden (NC) as a favor for a comedian from that community. He played on a flatbed in the drizzling rain for about 10 people, half of which came in my car. He was nice as he could be, we got pictures and talked with him. A total professional.

Think of it like the NFL but the season is only two weeks long instead of six months.
