In other words, red goes into white and white goes into red? Is it like speakers where reversing the wire gets you an out of phase condition. I ask because someone I know actually hooked up his recent turntable find backwards...:sigh:;) When that certain somebody realized his mistake and corrected it, he didn't really hear a noticeable difference (Marantz TT530 into a Marantz PM8004). He was surprised.

I think the only real effect is that previously the speakers would suck, and now they blow.

All that would do is reserve the channels.

BTW, Marc is correct. A simple test is to adjust your balance control (for those of you who have knobs/dials). I switched it back and the left channel became the right and vice versa. Correctly hooked up (please kids, don't drink and install), the red right is the right channel as the balance control shows.

Marc said it would "reserve* the channels. I believe he meant, and most people read," reverse".

I took it to mean what he intended it to mean. I don't know WTH bluemooze is talking about, however.

If you are changing left to right and right to left then the stereo image will be screwed up.

If you are reversing polarity on both channels, then the drivers will go in when they should go out and vice versa.

If you are reversing polarity on one channel and not the other, then you will be canceling out some of the signals and bass will suffer as well as stereo image.

I am not sure from your description what you speak of.

Left is right and right is wrong.

If your friend only messed up 1 channel it would be noticeable...mess'em both up and it's fixed :)

After reversing the channels, your amp will instead of "ON", say "NO".

Are you sure it's not a "reserve" switch?
