To be fair, that describes most of the threads around here.

Appliances are also much smaller along with everything else. Not a good comparison at all, IMHO.

Perhaps but it doesn't mean it's OK. Just seems so ridiculously unhelpful. This is an example of how a thread snout colors would go here.

OP : "Which color should I paint the room. I hate blue."
    Member 1 : "Blue!"
    Member 2 : "Blue's the best."
Member 3 : "Blue and get a light that makes it look differently sometimes."
Member 4 : "Blue. Get plants to distract you from the blue."

    And on and on...

  5. It's not just the Hoffman Forum, either.

(Note to self: never, ever ask a guitar forum for suggestions on which guitar to buy. Test drive, or nothing. If you don't know what you want for yourself, learn what you want. And unlike other new-condition consumer items like cars or DSPs, every individual guitar is a little bit different.)

Explaining this here will probably get me blocked from this site. Just stay single, your life will be much better.

Yep, this was the estimate they put in one of the emails regarding closing:

To estimate your approximate cost use the formula: $100.00 plus $0.45 per disc. Actual cost that will be invoiced to you will vary as it is subject to the labor required to extract and assemble your discs.

I asked what tiny, lightweight audio mixer I should get on a forum supposedly intended for inexpensive equipment - and I had half a dozen people recommend a $6,000 mixer.

Fortunately, I managed to find the hundred-dollar one that I eventually purchased on my own without the "help" of any of those goobers.

Without the 'massive space' for permanent LP/CD shelving... it's hopeless.

I've got 5 big & or long boxes of 'extra' music on the floor, CDs & LPs, all M-, not stored in my CD & LP shelving in 3 rooms.

    It's overwhelming really.

    True

And of course none of this cost includes actual shipping cost. They later sent this too:

In addition, as a means to avoid the cost of USPS shipping, for those that have the ability to come to Madison, if we can obtain the permission of the landlord, we are looking into coordinating one or two Saturday morning "pick up your collection" events. Details will follow.

  12. Is your present storage climate controlled? Free from water leakage? Is the monthly rent/lease on the storage manageable?

New Jersey is a storage option, as is outside the city in NY state.

How long is your stay in NYC? Not sure? Specific amount of time?

How have you been dealing with this up to this point? What/how do you listen to stuff presently?

People actually sent their CD collections to a company to store and rip them?

Ah, Better think again on that one! PLEASE stay away from them. This should be a warning to anyone considering not doing it yourself. Are there reputable businesses or persons out there whom you can trust? Of course. But being able to differentiate trustworthy people and businesses from those who would screw you over in a heartbeat is not that easy!!! "Nearly a million albums might not get back to their owners. Last month, almost a million CDs stored in Wisconsin seemed to disappear. For years, thousands of people paid a Madison-based company, named Murfie, to rip, stream, and store their CDs, vinyl, and cassettes. But a few weeks ago, Murfie’s website went offline and nearly all communication from the company ceased. Now, customers fear their physical music collections may be lost forever..."

A small Wisconsin company stored thousands of people’s CDs, then suddenly vanished

Anyone who lives in a major city, where dog walkers have been a thing for decades? Hell, Hank Azaria's character on the sitcom Mad About You was a dog walker, and that was in the '90s!

Dude, you're preaching to the choir. I started a thread to discuss Windows tools for ripping and organizing MP3's, specifically, because that's the kind of music file I listen to the most when I'm not listening to physical media. Someone revived it after it had been dormant for months to make sure I knew that I should rip everything losslessly.

Lots of people want to impose their preferences on others. It's annoying and not helpful in any way whatsoever.
