the left banke were profoundly underrated,
    i think.
    it's tough to pick,
but this might be my favorite.

A unique, fragile voice sadly stilled. He got out of the game long ago, despite pressures to jump back in. Hopefully, he found some peace away from it all. RIP, and thanks for those two timeless albums, which we will enjoy forever.

Not to nitpick, but Steve Martin is not singing here (outside of a rehearsal video with George Martin released shortly before Martin's death, he never publicly performed in any of the Left Banke reunion configurations).

    Very sad news.

Steve's singing has meant so much to me over the decades. Absolutely timeless music, and this includes the two late Left Banke in-all-but-name-only tracks "Two by Two" and "Love Songs in the Night."

Haven't heard anything official, but he was known to have suffered from a serious alcohol abuse problem for many years. Also, some years ago he was reportedly the victim of physical assault that had left him with lingering health issues.

Sorry, I meant George Cameron (got my Georges and Martins mixed up/together).

Here's a newly posted clip from the same rehearsal session that I mentioned in my above post. While it's nice to see the two of them together, it's a sad reminder that time is indeed an unforgiving mistress:

Bummer. This leaves just Tom Finn from the "core" of the Left Banke. Wow. All gone within just a few years. I'm glad there were some reunion attempts, but sad that they weren't able to have a full on stage reunion (though they got pretty close, with Michael Brown joining George and Tom on stage one night).

Rick Brand is also still with us as far as I know, but long out of the music business. Though I read he was present in the audience of the aforementioned reunion.

May Steve find the peace that apparently seemed to elude him in his later years.

Rick Brand became a shrink. I knew his daughter who is a singer/songwriter.

Those Michael Brown/Steve Martin demos form 2000 are absolutely phenomenal. They are both at the top of their game in voice and playing.

    Sadly, nothing came from it.

Stuart Murdoch attempted to get the classic LB line-up to reunite for the Bowlie Weekender he curated in 1999.

Obviously that was never going to happen.
