drummer John Ware announced on FB that Chris Darrow passed away this morning.

Darrow was at one time a member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, backed up Linda Ronstadt in the Corvettes and played on Songs of Leonard Cohen and Sweet Baby James, as well as helping Ben Harper early in his career. His excellent first solo album from 1972, Artist Proof, was reissued by Drag City in 2013. It's great California canyon rock.

I absolutely loved Will The Circle Be Unbroken and the subsequent volumes. A great musician will be truly missed.

Sad to hear. Chris was also in one of my favorite bands, Kaleidoscope. I didn't realize he'd done a solo album, I definitely want to check it out. RIP

There seem to be a number of solo lps by him.
There were 2 put out together on cd by BGO some time ago which were his 2nd and 3rd lps. Not sure if you can get those for a decent price anywhere.|
Need to find out if i still have my copy.

Surprised to hear of his passing a couple of weeks after seeing that the live Kaleidoscope had been circulated again.
    That's worth tracking down.

Here's Darrow's "Keep Your Mind Open" from Kaleidoscope's "Side Trips":

So, if you enjoy the string experiments of George Harrison and Brian Jones,
check these guys out. The beginning of world music.

I really need to check it out. A bit more than just "Mr Bojangles", which I love.

It's a terrific album, but I don't believe Darrow appears on it.

The US Kaleidoscope is one of the most eclectic bands of the very eclectic era of the mid/late 60's. Any lovers of music of that era should check them out.

Keep Your Mind Open is one true classic. US Kaleidoscope was a very good band. I am very fond of Southern California Drive from A Southern California Drive, one of those west coast deep cuts.

Jimmy Page was quoted as saying that Kaleidoscope was his ideal band.

The Dirt, Silver and Gold 3 LP/2 CD set contains quite a bunch of the NGDB tracks that Chris Darrow appears on.

Saw Camper Van Beethoven tonight in Cambridge, Massachusetts and they dedicated “O Death” to Darrow and said the Kaleidoscope version was their introduction to the song and template for their arrangement.
