Pop Music Video That Chokes You Up Emotionally

I saw this one last night (first time) and I almost started sobbing (and I’m a grown-ass man).

 

Easy one to start with - Johnny Cash, "Hurt" (OK, maybe not "pop").

 

The video for Katy Perry's song Firework really hit me hard (even though I think the actual lyrics are a bit lazy "moon, moon, moon"? Really?) But the director made really a powerful story out of it:

David Bowie’s “Where Are We Now?” tugged at my heartstrings when I first saw it. I haven’t seen it since, not even when looking for the link, below, and I still can’t bring myself to listen to his last two albums.

People laughed at this video back in the day spring 1984 because of the way Lionels sculptered head looked. I didn't cry but that scene with the sculpted head and the blind woman saying "This is how I see you" totally kicked me right in the gut.
My God so touching you would have to be non human to not get it.

 

Count me as non-human then!

That video was silly and sappy 36 years ago and it hasn't improved with age!


It doesn't help that Lionel comes across as a creepy stalker much of the time!

The video itself doesn't do much for me, but lyrically the song is pretty much an exact description of how I felt about someone I knew in my early 30's. But unlike the video, my version didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.

 

Sigur Rós - Svefn-G-Englar

 

Kate Bush's Cloudbusting, based on the real story of Peter Reich told in his personal story A Book of Dreams about his relationship with his father Wilhelm Reich. Kate played Peter and Wilhelm was played by the great Donald Sutherland.



Kate writing Cloudbusting brought enough attention to Peter Reich's story that the book was reissued with a still from the video used as the cover image.

 

I watched it once - when he premiered it on Oprah - and never could watch it again (nothing to do with Oprah).

Not sure it counts, but that damn McDonald's commercial with “Time After Time” used to choke me up...

The music video for this timeless song is hauntingly wistful & phantasmagorical, it affects me deeply & viscerally.
