    James Cagney

Again, your favorite, and movies you consider great... He was in many good films, a lot of 80 minute manufactured quickies, but a GREAT movie?

He's in many GOOD movies, but I wouldn't call them GREAT... Again, just personal opinion. The only movie of his I didn't like and couldn't finish was "Yankee Doodle Dandee", but I don't like musicals, except "Singin' in the Rain".

Do you have an actor as a candidate?

I'm pretty sure Cagney was in a few "great" films.
I consider Mister Roberts and One, Two, Three great films, as well as two of my favorite movies of all time.

Agreed. Titanic has to also be on the list of great movies with Bill Paxton, although Tombstone and True Lies are my personal favorites.

I consider Apollo 13 a great film. I'm not certain if A Simple Plan is great, but it's at least "very good".

Armand Assante... terrific character actor, never got that breakthrough role to put him in the big league. Would have made a great Bond villain though...

I guess it depends on what you define as a "great" movie, but this was sure a damn good one:

I want to say James Woods. Even though he was a co-lead of sorts in Once Upon A Time In America, had a supporting role in Casino, and has been a fine lead in many smaller or cult films, I feel like he has never had that ONE role in a true classic that everyone knows him for. OUATIA is close, but doesn’t really exist in the popular consciousness. (And yeah, I don’t care for his politics, but great actor nonetheless. His live wire energy reminds me of Cagney).

Is the movie "Salvador" any good? I've heard good things, but Oliver Stone tends to take the best subjects, distort and delegitimize them. People always refer to Jim Morrison by that awful movie, because a movie is much easier, and usually spoon-fed.

I liked Salvador, I've watched it several times. James Woods is a great actor to me, it's a shame he doesn't work anymore. One of my favorite movies of his was called Fast Walking, about a crooked prison guard whose cousin is locked up and the head honcho/drug dealer amongst the inmates. Tim McIntire played that part.

Salvador is really good. Woods is in top form (Oscar-nominated) and Jim Belushi is excellent too. It is peak Oliver Stone before his stylistic excesses got ... well, too excessive. Subject matter is fairly grim. On last view, it is kind of a choppy film, but that is down to the compression of historical events, and how it was made; basically Fear and Loathing in El Salvador. Definitely worth checking out.
