He replaced the copper wiring with mined silver to give the audio signal a greater level of purity. :)
But at low impedance audio there would be zero difference between silver and copper. Skin effect kicks in at MHZ frequencies.

So... you’ve remastered a title or two. What’s the “logic“ behind the overkill on their process? The article really didn’t make much sense as far as any improvement over $35 audiophile pressing.

They want to actually make their money back on all the gear they bought, restored, tweaked, and the high licensing fees for the music. They want to do it in one or two releases rather than lower the price and have it made up by a bunch of reissues.

    Shrug..

Why, for that kind of cash I can get one of Tom Port's mint minus minus minus hot stampers on heavy vinyl with tubey magic that's off the charts, a huge bottom end and a crisp clean finish with subtle notes of pears and chocolate that plays perfectly except for 12 loud pops on track 2 of side 1 and nine loud pops on track 4 of side 2.

What, you don’t want to spend $400 on a Electric Recording Company jazz title that you probably remastered 10 years ago and could pick up for a fraction of the price?

Mikey Fremer thinks very highly of the ERC titles.

It's puzzling but if they can make money doing this, I'm impressed..

In a half-hearted defense of these re-issues, I think they generally re-issue quite rare titles that fetch much more as originals than what they are asking.

Sorry, I'm not sure. Is this the company that issued those rare johanna martzy disks a few years ago? I would have liked to have heard those..

They are doing the Art Pepper now? I cannot imagine why that one????

When is enough is enough? Their prices are outrageous. I own your version of Way Out West by Sonny Rollins. There’s no way I’m going to spend $400 on the ERC pressing that’s probably not better sounding.

Yes, that's the one. He did two volumes of the Martzy records.

Fremer A-B'd a title that had been done by both Chad and ERC to a group of audiophiles, a Coltrane title. All preferred the ERC. From using tubes, to the lathe used, to the quality of the vinyl, to the stamping of the LPs by hand, that adds costs.

The quality control on Chad's records is so-so. I recently bought his reissue of the self-titled Buddy Holly album. Received a copy with very noisy vinyl. I got a replacement which was noisy and very off-center. Acoustic Sounds won't do a second exchange. They offered a refund if I wanted to send it back to them.

By the way, Chad has revived the UHQR reissues that MoFi used to offer in the '70s. A single LP in a box, he's charging $125.

As someone mentioned, some of the titles ERC is reissuing are ones where originals go for much more than what they're charging. It's beyond my budget to purchase one, but hey, you can buy a single album reel-to-reel reissue from Chad for $450. Hypocrisy much, Chad?
