Although I am a Rock fan (The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Band) I like some soft rock/pop artists. My favourites would be Simon & Garfunkel, the Carpenters, Billy Joel and Christopher Cross. What are your favourites of this kind of music?

    I like soft Bread.
After a couple of days though it loses its taste and you can make croutons out of it.
There was never a band called The Croutons was there?

Serene and beautiful yet covering the range of human emotions. Karen's voice being perfection doesn't hurt either.

I normally prefer the softer music with the exception of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Bonnie Tyler, Jennifer Rush, Queen, some classical & some opera which I'm just getting into. I've got very sensitive ears so anything louder than Celine Dion's voice is normally too loud for me.

  11. There is no limit to the marshmallow softness of music I like. Petty Booka is as good an example as any:

I can also enjoy some metal though.

Dunno if you'd consider this soft but I like it.

I like her "Top of the World" & her version of "End of the World" too. (I like both Skeeter Davis & Sonia singing "End of the World" as well.)

Whitney Houston's 80s ballads are really great! You Give Good Love, Saving All My Love For You, and many others - most her early material was really soft and beautiful.

She had the creamiest , dreamiest voice.
Used to love it when one of their songs came on the radio way back when.

A lot of the softer Beach Boys songs fit the category for me as well. The harmonies are simply amazing on the quieter, softer songs with less instrumentation.

I consider soft acts those that are mainly pop oriented: Carpenters, Abba, Bread, Olivia Newton-John, The 5th Dimension, Sonny & Chér are among my favorites. Solid albums, great singles, not necessarily Art. Should we consider singer-songwriters who are more folky? Carole King, Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Dan Fogelberg? They are softer than say a lot of Neil Young, Van Morrison, Springsteen, but they have some bite. I love Streisand, Sinatra, Mathis etc, do they fit in with this definition? Enya too. And I have to confess something: in the last two weeks I have bought a bunch of Ray Conniff albums, and have enjoyed each and every one and am not ashamed one whit.

I prefer her early songs all the way up to "I will always love you". I like "Ooh! I wanna dance with somebody" & the songs you mentioned. (Ballads are 1 of my favourite type of song.)
