    Yankee Doodle Dandy
    Love Me Or Leave Me
Ragtime (he was very good in a small part and his final role, but the movie is one of my favorites)

Watched “Public Enemy “ last night. He’s amazing in it. Hard to believe it’s 90 years old.

He certainly owned the 1930‘s, his old sparring partner Humphrey Bogart, the 1940‘s ( imo).

Certainly an icon, though I prefer Edward G Robinson and Humphrey Bogart. But I admit that I need to see more of his movies, having only seen the major ones. Cagney was excellent in Angels With Dirty Faces.

My favorite film of his is "The Gallant Hours", where he plays Bull Halsey. Not a very accurate portrayal (Bull was more than a little temperamental) but a fine performance by Cagney.

I am. I'm most partial to White Heat, but, it is a masterpiece after all & Cagney is simply brilliant as Cody Jarrett, & The Crowd Roars, the latter because I'm a racing fan, & he plays a great heel with a heart in it.

I’d add Footlight Parade. Has some great Busby Berkeley numbers. Plus Joan Blondell!

I am a big fan of James Cagney! He's on the top of my list with Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Robert Mitchum, John Wayne & Richard Widmark. If a movie has any of these guys, I want it!

Yeah, I forgot that one; it was a pretty good way to say fini to a career, save his cameo in Ragtime. I especially liked him and George Raft together in Each Dawn I Die; easily the best thing Raft ever did. And I've always thought 1940's Torrid Zone was a terrific rom-com for its time, with a great cast to go with Cagney----Ann Sheridan (rrrrrow!), George Tobias, Andy Devine, Pat O'Brien, Jerome Cowan at his whiny wimpy worst and George Reeves (Mr. Litos provides a pic from it above). One of the few times Cagney wore a mustache. Wish somebody would put that out on blu-ray with a good commentary track!
There's also an interesting pic he did in 1934---Here Comes the Navy, another flick with his Irish mafia members O'Brien and Frank McHugh. Much of the movie was filmed aboard the USS Arizona (infamously sunk at Pearl Harbor) and some of it near the end filmed on the dirigible USS Macon (which would be lost the next year in a storm off the California coast). Talk about star-crossed locations!

Not keen on the cowboy film he made, Bogart said his cowboy hat made look like a mushroom.

Virginia City with Errol Flynn was the western Bogie made; it and 1938's Swing Your Lady are the biggest pieces of excrement in his career, hands down! I'd much rather watch him and the wabbit in The Return of Doctor X than either of those.

Always admired James Cagney's versatility - he was great in the gangster movies, but also a terrific hoofer who had great comic timing.

Bogart and Cagney weren’t the best of friends in real life. HB had a posh background, JC more blue collar.
