    Possum River

    Cryan' Shames roots:

Denny Conroy (Cryan' Shames drummer) formed a band named "Possum River" in 1971 with Lenny Kerley, Dave Curtis, and Jan Knopek. Tom Doody was also a member during its early stage. They made one album under the label "Ovation". Denny was back with the Cryan' Shames in the summer of 1969 and left the band later that year.

..."sweet, very cat mother-esque drummer from cryan shames".

Lenny Kurley (Shames guitarist) was a member of "Possum River" in 1971, and a member of "Good Foot" from Chicago before moving to Nashville to work with Gene Cotton (Areola Records).

Alan Dawson, also of the Cryam Shames, after 1969 was a member of Aorta, Possum River, Cotton {produced Platte River Crossing CD}, and Otis and the Elevators with Vicky Hubly.

A unique album in many ways, it's like nothing else in my collection (except, maybe, the first XX album, but that was 25 years later and not as good). A true "indie" classic.

Whenever people hear it for the first time the reaction is usually "WTF?" but they almost always listen to it all.

Sabelle (Sabelle Breer) - Canadian singer who had a somewhat popular song One O'Clock in 1997, some might remember it. Nice sexy tune, attractive singer, but only one album

I still love both of these albums. Too bad there was never a second album by DEVICE.

King L released just one album, "Great Day for Gravity". The band had members of Danny Wilson and the Bible. Amazing songwriting, including a hidden track of their song "Last Cigarette", which was covered by kd lang on "Drag". Worth seeking out if you're a fan of either band.

    Princess Pang - s/t (1988)
Female fronted sleaze rock, ala early Aerosmith/Hanoi Rocks.
Oddly released on Metal Blade Records (home of Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and zillions of other thrash/extreme metal bands)... I believe this was their lone attempt to tap into the "hair metal" market.

Roger Nichols and the Small Circle of Friends (1968) ...a classic of the "sunshine pop" genre...Roger of course, co-wrote many songs with Paul Williams for the Carpenters. This album has a terrific version of Carole King's "Snow Queen"-also has
one of my all-time favorite cover designs. First came across this in a thrift store in 1989.

The Forum-"The River Is Wide" (1967) Interesting California group with lead singer Phil Campos with instrumental backing by the Wrecking Crew...the group did the original version of "The River Is Wide", and another excellent single called "Trip On Me" is on this album. One of my favorite songs on the LP is "Look The Other Way"...sounds like it should be in a Quentin Tarantino movie.
