    They were both French? If you read the blurb on the back cover, it mentions Van Gogh's Starry Night as an inspiration for the Timbres, so perhaps that would have been more appropriate as a cover.

    Edit: Just googled "Dutilleux Gauguin" and it appears that his Symphony No. 2 was inspired by that painting of Gauguin and especially its title “D'où venons-nous? Que sommes-nous? Où allons-nous?” ("Were do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?").

    Very cool. I just read about that connection between Dutilleux’s 2nd symphony and the painting by Gauguin. Interesting. Thanks for the feedback.
