Yeah, next time I do fall 73 I'm graduating to everything, not just the official releases and whatever odds and ends are on my computer.
Now listening to 6/14/84[Red Rocks]on TIGDH on SiriusXM's Grateful Dead channel via the webstream now playing Shakedown Street.
Finally made my way to the Help > Slip! > Frank portion of 14 June 1976. And now in the right state to fully appreciate the musical interplay. And it pairs well with a Ginger-Lemon Kombucha.
3.16.73, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY (Note: This legendary venue is nearing its end... Some tremendous concerts and sporting events here over the years. I just had the pleasure of watching the Isles kick my Bruins in the teeth for three games in a row, and that place was an insane asylum. Really an incredible atmosphere with some great fans.) China > Rider to start the show! I'll take that any day. Bird Song and PITB towards the end of the first set, both great versions. Phil is a monster on Loser... Just putting the hammer down. Then at the drop of a hat, Big River and Don't Ease Me In are dominated by Keith with an old school barrelhouse sound. Dark Star is really upbeat, with an incredible vibe for the first 12-13 minutes. Tons of energy and a borderline frenetic pace from everyone. There's just a ton going on. This wasn't at all what I was expecting, but it was certainly welcome. After the verse things slow way down, get dark and a little weird. Spacey, then a wild free jazz noisy freakout. Perfect. Quick transition into a straightforward Truckin', then a delicate Morning Dew to finish the set.
HAHAHA laughed at my computer out of nowhere reading that one. Oh man, I still can't read it without laughing. That's great.
Get busy. As far as I know no one has ever been on their death bed and said, “I should have went to fewer concerts.”
Listening to the Road Trips 1.1 bonus disc tonight... absolutely wonderful music. Like some others here, I’m a BIG early Brent fan and love the energy he brought to the fall ‘79 tour. Really think this bonus disc encapsulates everything amazing about this wonderful time in Dead history. oh, and I’m rooting for 4/1/91 as a future release for the Dave’s picks. Read someone a few days ago that brought this show up... HUGE fan!! Throw in the Eyes and PITB from the night before and it’ll be a top-10 Dave’s picks for me (especially if Dave puts the Eyes and PITB going into the Dark Star considering the teases...)
