As far as lead singers go, definitely Justin Hayward. Great hooks and riffs, acoustic and electric: "Question", "It's Up to You", "The Story in Your Eyes", "Tuesday Afternoon", "You and Me". And an excellent solo guitarist who served the songs.
I don't think he's been mentioned here but Taylor Goldsmith from DAWES is one helluva player. He was great from the beginning, but on their 4th album, 'All Your Favorite Bands', he really started to show signs of being a true guitar god.
Don't forget he was in Mott the Hoople also. Great list. Judging by it I have a feeling we're close to each other in age (Betwixt 55 and 65). I've never thought of Buck Dharma as underrated because he was an acknowledged great in a fairly popular band as I was growing up. Maybe to younger or older age groups. It's a wide varied group here at SHMF. and like it or not, Gorham and Robertson introduced me to twin lead guitars. Actually I think it's kind of cool.
I don't know whether they're underrated by other guitarists but when guitar greats are discussed I seldom hear the general listening public mention guitarists like: Lindsey Buckingham Nancy Wilson Dave Davies George Harrison Mike Campbell Stephen Stills Most of the attention seems to go to the flashiest players (which is not to imply they cannot also be great).
Great List! Geraldo held things together building a solid foundation that allowed his bride to sing her ass off. Billy Zoom is definitely on my list of all time rhythm players. Could you imagine if Jimi and Randy continued to play together?
I'd say Dave as well. For her acoustic playing I'd say yes to Nancy Wilson but her ex Roger Fisher was probably more underrated than she was.
St. Vincent’s great! She’s such a chameleon, too, like Bowie. She’s got her own guitar line: St. Vincent | Guitars | Ernie Ball Music Man And a couple Grammy’s. And she used to play with Sufjan Stevens when he was touring Illinois and when he was really something!
Frank Infante- Blondie. Go back and listen the lead guitar on Parallel Lines. He kicks ass on the whole album.
Another Heart player, Howard Leese, knows his wat around a fretboard too but is rarely mentioned in dispatches. His solo record from about a decade ago or thereabouts - Secret Weapon - is heartily recommended.
