That lightning in a bottle combination of Meatloaf, Jim Steinman and Todd Rundgren sealed his rock immortality early on. A magnificent voice and character.
May he rest in peace. Hew was very popular here in Ireland when I was growing up. I watched a documentary on him a few years ago and he came across as a decent guy.
Sad to hear. Always loved his singing particularly with Ted Nugent, and always wished he and Ted would have worked together more at the time.
I think Bat Out Of Hell is a classic obviously, but Dead Ringer and Bad Attitude are good albums too. I need to give Midnight At The Lost And Found another listen.... I didn't mind the later stuff, but less interesting to me
The "Bat Out Of Hell" album was definitely a soundtrack of my 1970's life and many millions of others. R.I.P. Meatloaf, my condolences to your family. So sorry, you'll be missed.
Paradise was a big part of the musical landscape of the 70s, just as much as disco and punk was. RIP in Mr. Loaf.
Saw him a fair few times, Sheff Arena, Birmingham NEC, the City Hall, a festival… Think my favourite show was the City Hall on the Bad Attitude tour. Loved the single from that time, ‘Modern Girl’. I remember he’d just lost a drummer to drugs. He refused to sing sex and drugs and rock and roll. He changed it to sex and drums and rock and roll. Nuff respect.
RIP Michael! Bat Of Hell was played endlessly by me as a kid, I knew the lyrics of every song. His singing on that album is tremendous, I was enthralled by the whole concept. Thank you for fun times!
This sucks, just learning of this right now Seems every other day we learn of someone in the entertainment industry passing.
Maybe they weren't up there, but he had a bona fide classic that'll still be played 50 years from now and more. Steinman might've been the songwriter, but Meat Loaf was the singer of the song.
When we say "Rest in peace", I just know that's never gonna happen up there now that Jim and Meat are reunited! EG.
The first time I had ever heard of him was before BOOH came out. He sang 3 (I think) songs on Nugent's Free-for-All album. I remember looking at the liner notes and wondering what the heck was a Meatloaf! Great songs too, if you haven't heard them. RIP Meat.
