Thanks for the great music, Meat. Just heard a radio interview of a talk he had with a local CBC host a year or so ago. One of the best rock personality chats I’ve ever heard. Sigh.
I can still remember the first time I heard Bat Out Of Hell in the back seat of a souped up chevy. Rest In Peace Meat!
First time I heard him was the Bat Out Of Hell film on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. To say I was blown away is an understatement.
I surely would have liked to have been there in the front row at The Bottom Line or My Father's Place in November 1977. Those audiences had very little idea what they were about to see. I have the audio and they were amazing shows.
Yeah but unless his management screwed him badly, the artist's share of LP and singles sales is enough to live well on when you move those kinds of units. Maybe it was limos, girls, more girls, top hotels, coke, and the rockstar life at the top for a year or two or three. I don't see how he could not have made some real money out of it.
Sad news to read, he left us some really great work. Wish still that there was an "IN MEMORIAM" forum here. I think would tidy things up, have a single thread per loss, rather than be co-mingled with the day-to-day chatter.
I remember when I'd Do Anything for Love exploded in the early 90s, and he was getting play on so many Lite and AC stations, he was the polar opposite of everything on those formats at the time.
Hit Parade is my favorite podcast. Anyone who's a fan of Meatloaf would love the 2 episodes on Jim Steinman: If a Hit Had Operatic Drama—From Meat Loaf to Celine Dion—Chances Are, Jim Steinman Made It
In the UK Meat Loaf and Take That were battling for no 1 spots in both the single and album charts for a month.
Life is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back I want my Meat Loaf back! Bat II is my favorite of his, but every album has something worth listening to. R.I.P. Meat!
