Rest easy Meat. I love all three Bat Out of Hell albums. Whether or not you like his music, one can't deny he had one hell of a voice.
Never been much more than a casual fan (I am one of maybe a dozen people who've never owned Bat Out of Hell, apparently) but you can't argue with the voice, or his track record. He was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show though, and I was a bit of a nerd for that movie in my college days, so he's cool in my book. His appearance on the Rocky Horror soundtrack is the only Meat example in my collection, now that I think about it. Gonna have to give that a spin today. R.I.P. sir.
TMZ are not really a credible source for, well anything, no official source has given the cause of his death yet. Other than gutter press quoting TMZ. They are probably guessing in the hope that the family will then be forced to either confirm or deny it. There a lot of gossip around social media that he was anti vaccine and anti mask, but there are very few hard facts on any of that. In one of his last interviews he seems a bit ambivalent, but I don't think this is really the time to speculate.
I too heard him first on Free For All and thought it bit strange that a temporary lead singer for Ted was now super duper famous. I don't mean that a swipe at his talent, it was just the beginning of an education in how people can get their start in unusual places. His love of sports bordered on insanity, as he made news a few years ago in a profile about how he was in 33 fantasy football leagues! If anyone has ever played in say just 2 or 3 you can end up with situations where what's good for one of your teams is bad for another. He must have had some head spinning Sundays. The late Meat Loaf staked claim as Fantasy Football legend
I think his story is worthy of a movie. Sign Tom Arnold up and get it done! RIP Meat! A big piece of my youth gone, but he made a timeless piece of music with Steinman and Rundgren that will live forever.
Amen. We saw him live once; I've been fond of him ever since I watched him on some daytime talk show, exposing a charlatan, to the chagrin of both host and flim-flam artist.
personally I think we should keep such speculation out of this thread. I couldn’t care less about stance on covid and vaccinations - whether I agree or not.
Meatloaf was once signed to Motown, and paired with a singer called Stoney (aka Shaun Murphy). Their singles didn’t chart, but she went on to be the singer in Little Feat.
There's the BBC Old Grey whistle Test show.... not sure this performance has aged well though, unlike his performance on Rockpalast ! We see here though that Meat Loaf was no mean actor, as his 70 film credits attest. Meat Loaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Light - Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC) - May 30th 1978 - video Dailymotion
I met him once at an art opening in NYC in the mid-80's. My partner was a fan and dared me to go up and talk to him. So I did. He was very nice and a known art lover.
It's been done, although a while ago, and ain't bad.... I'll be spinning Bat of of Hell shortly in memoriam https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0242956/
I just saw him in a recent interview on the One America channel. Can't think of the interviewers name, I think he might be a country singer, he has a cowboy hat on when he does the interviews. Anyway, ML seemed perfectly fine there, talking about his life and career.
