Seawind of Battery - Clockwatching As suggested by @BMac19 the other day. He’s right; these ambient instrumentals have a nice, mellow, lovely vibe. Someone in the comments referred to it as “Space Western.”
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life 1977, RCA Records This is a classic... Worked perfectly this morning at top volume.
It's funny, I bought this LP when it came out despite being a prog/metal 'kid' at the time (read: all the usual suspects in Yes/Crimson/ELP/Rush/Sabs/Zep/Tull/BOC/Etc) but there was something about this band that captured us at the time from a rhythmic sophistication that fit right in to the aesthetic and my circle of drummer/musician friends became fast fans of the band.
Astor Piazzolla, Libertango Brilliant 1972 release. If you like getting lost in the music, or dancing, or both - this is a must listen! Grateful Dead fans will love it. Sometimes it just takes one - and this album - to tango. LOL Here’s the entire album.
This is a tasty romp, leans a little more into the electronics but is pure MMW. I've been a huge fan from the start and have pretty much everything they put out so and thing is worth checking out, plus the MSMW material. Two of my all time favorites are the two Live At Tonic albums; one all acoustic and one "electric" but essentially fully improvised. Highly recommended. The acoustic date covers some wonderful readings of tunes by Lee Morgan, Coltrane, Bud Powell. A desert island for me. I've caught them live, both acoustic and electric and a few w/Sco, at least 30 times. Seek this out if you don;t already have it: And:
Sami's on the right track here. What I failed to state was that the LP's also sound much better than their companion CD versions.
I used the drum intro of the killer title track for a long time as my opening theme when doing college radio before switching to "Soul Makossa".
I was the only kid in my freshman year of college that owned it, and no one could stand it until they appeared on Saturday Night Live, from which point it was a staple at every party. Side two is among the greatest album sides ever, by anyone.
Cheap Trick - Standing On the Edge What I wouldn't give for a stripped down, de-80's'd version of this album. Holy crap Jack Douglas should be shot.
OK, so this is funny, that's actually Bringing It All Back Home, and I knew when I bought it there was something up with the title, but the picture on the jacket is the same, so it didn't quite register. Turns out this is a repress from Holland released anytime during '74 and '80. Weird! Vinyl is weird! Holland, weird! And I have the CD with the correct title. So why didn't I know? Tracklist is the same, thank god. That would have killed me.
I grew up on fast and rollicking "Isis" on Biograph, so when I first heard slow "Isis" on Desire, I didn't really like it. But now I dig slow "Isis."
And how, pray tell, did we get to Chinese people? Maybe it's the Holland Concerted Boys' Choir. I think you need some time in "Mozambique."
Don't be racist. How do you know they're not Chinese? Remember, by hypothesis, they sound exactly like Dylan.
