Just a heads up that as of July 1st if you are in Canada and buy something from a Canadian seller you will be charged tax.

Kinda sucks but I am surprised it took until now for the Government to want their piece.

Well, we knew this would arrive didn't we? With the USA IRS grabbing their piece and Europe too it was only a matter of time. :sigh: Back to craigslist and garage sales I guess.

Over here in the USA, I was charged state sales tax by Acoustic Sounds for the first time in 13 years of shopping there,

The good news is that at least purchases from outside of Canada aren't automatically taxed. An added 13% to the cost will only make US purchases even more attractive. They often are anyway.

But the high shipping charges from the USA will cancel out the lack of tax.

Not really always as you can get some really cheap rates from the larger sellers, especially with CDs. Canadian postage rates can be quite expensive if you aren't in the same province as the buyer, which can put them in the same league as USPS rates to Canada. US item prices are often cheaper. Even before this change, that will add 13% to my bill, I often found it cheaper to buy from the US anyway. Also, for higher priced items, the postage stays the same but the HST can have a significant impact. You buy at $200 item and there's $26 added to your cost.

There are CDs from the UK that are even cheaper, all in, than buying from Canadian sellers even when they just charge $5 to ship across Canada.
