From 1967 to 1978 The Pretty Things recorded five great albums worth of songs under the pseudonym Electric Banana for the DeWolfe library music company.
Geronimo Jackson from Lost. I think the producers of the show managed to convince some people they were a real band.
Cotton Candy and Rapid Fire. Cotton Candy (1978) Made-for-TV movie directed by Ron Howard. “Let’s show ‘em!”
If we can include fiction, Rick Moody's novel The Garden State (no connection to the film of the same name) features a fictional rock band inspired by real band The Feelies. The novel is even set in Haledon, New Jersey, which is The Feelies' hometown. It's been years since I read it, but I remember the fictional band never being named by Moody (I could be wrong). George R.R. Martin's novel The Armageddon Rag centers on the legend of The Nazgul, a fictional Zeppelin/Sabbath-esque hard rock band.
Murph and the Magic Tones (Blues Brothers) The Good Ol Boys (Blues Brothers) Mouse Rat (Parks and Rec) Duke Silver (Parks and Rec) King Dice and Sam Therapy (Bowie’s Sons of the Silent Age, though bands subsequently named themselves after this song)
I need to buy some CDs I need to buy some gum I mow the grass, I clean the house I think I deserve some... some mo' allowance! Don't forget, "Killer Tofu" and "Where's my Sock?"
