I’d say that the album I push most is Butterfly Child’s Honeymoon Suite. It’s pretty accessible (musically), so I think it would have fairly broad appeal (unlike some of the other records I love). The problem is that it’s not available streaming as far as I can tell, and only maybe a song or two is available on YouTube. So, people would have to track down an actual CD (and have a CD player) to listen to it. I should probably start recommending something more readily available…
Two albums for hard-bop fans who think there's no life beyond the Blue Note sound: Blue Mitchell's Blue Soul and Harold Land's The Fox.
I had a window of about 5 years where I would recommend albums to people, but with only a few exceptions, they fell on deaf ears, so I quit around 40 years ago. The one that more than one person liked was Marquee Moon.
John McLaughlin - Devotion Fairport Convention - What We Did On Our Holidays Steve Hillage - Fish Rising These off the top of my head. Great lesser known records.
Dead Dog's Eyeball by Kathy McCarty. Recommended it once again this past weekend and doing it right now.
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds Steely Dan -Aja Bruce Springsteen - Darkness On The Edge Of Town Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On Joe Jackson - Night And Day Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water Billy Joel - The Stranger The Style Council - Our Favourite Shop
I would help if you mentioned the artists I know Blood on the tracks but have never heard of The humbler ? (Or do you mean John Martyn's The tumbler) I tend to do this more with songs than with albums - this is one I remember telling people about
and just stumbled across this one ....this band never fails to surprise their two country rock albums The tussler and International Tussler Society are highly recommended
I remember when Gomez released their debut Bring It On and I was amazed. No one in the US really knew anything about them, though I think they won the Mercury award for that album. It was so unique sounding at the time. I tried to turn a lot of people on to that album. Not enough I guess, as they're gone now.
A lot of albums. Bruce Springsteen - Asbury Park Top of my head. Probably Kate Bush, Talk Talk and Roxy Music albums
Probably one which stands out the most: The Church - Priest = Aura A psychedelic-prog. masterpiece Aura live performance on Moscham I may talk up another here, but I'm still awaiting receipt of my physical format (CD) order; probably will post it next week. I know it's one that I'll feel great enthusiasm for & will want to give it additional well-deserving attention!
