Too many great albums during this time period. Would probably crash the server.

Some interesting mostly non-Metal albums of the era, some Metal albums I didn’t want to cut or discovered too late to rank, or others that might be lumped in with Metal:

    1982:

    Axe- Offering
Budgie- Deliver Us From Evil (In the 70s they were pretty heavy, but by the time this album came out they had become more of a melodic Hard Rock/AOR sounding band.)
Glory Bells- Dressed In Black (Metal-didn’t hear it early enough to rank it, but still noteworthy)
    Magnum- Chase the Dragon
    Messendger- S/T
    Nightwing- Black Summer
    "Black Summer"

No Bros- Ready for the Action (Probably Metal enough for the other list, but I discovered it too late to rank it)
    Santers- Racing Time
U8- Pegasus 1001 (Great Metal album, I neglected to listen to when I was doing 1982)
    Winterhawk- Revival

Cool thread with a lot of stuff I never even heard of back in the day.....I would disagree with rankings, but who cares, I'm getting to check out stuff from my own era I'm not familiar with....

Bottom line, I'm not a genre stuck rock fan. I like good rock and sometimes it gets called metal. I tend to like the early 80s a lot better for what was called metal at the time, than came later.

The rankings seem to change every time I listen to one of these albums. I knew going in that it would be impossible to come up with a ranking and stick with it. Any of these albums that made the list are albums I like, regardless of where I put them. In most cases I still tend to favor the ones near the top more than the ones near the bottom. I posted the song from each album that I liked the best or one of songs I liked the best. There are also lots of songs that I didn't include which help shape these albums. They may not be as good, causing a lower position, or it could be very consistent all the way through resulting in a higher position. I did listen to all these albums several times and many more that did not make the list. Through 1984 I'd estimate I listened to between 700-800 albums.

One of my all time favorite albums. 37 years later and I'm still listening to it fairly regularly.

    Great thread Soopernaught.
You've picked out a load of stuff I've never heard of and will check out and also brought back a lot of NWOBHM memories for me :righton:

I agree with you about Iron Maiden - Killers. It's weird how an album of material more or less written at the same time as the first album just seemsnowhere near as good (except Wrathchild.

Hey You by Scorpions - I don't know how it wasn't put on an album from the word go, it's one of there best tracks from it's era.

There were some truly awful album covers put out back then

When you say "from it", does that mean you were in a Metal band in the 80s?

I prefer them with the 1st singer, although Diamond Dreamer is still a top 20 for me. After that they never matched their early material. Heavy Metal Ears is the high point for me.
