In addition to Three's Company, he starred in one of my favorite TV movies (with Sharon Gless): Letting Go (1985). It was a serious drama about two people who can't get over losing someone (he: his wife died, she: she walked in on her significant other in bed with another woman). They both attend a Therapy Group to help them to get over their losses. Both Ritter and Gless gave an excellent performances.

He was also in one of my favorite stories in The Love Boat: Oh Dale! (in the Second Episode of the First Season). Like with the above, although there are some comedic moments there was also some good drama too.

John Ritter was a great performer. He is missed.

Side Note 1: This was the movie that introduced me to the song "In My Life" by The Beatles (although the song was performed in the movie by the group Rain).

Side Note 2: Keanu Reeves had a bit part in this TV movie, playing a character much like the same one he played in Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure.

  5. It's hard to believe.

Hearing the intro to Three's Company always brought a smile to my face.

He did so much TV....too much IMHO because he is better than that, but I am sure it paid the bills. Regardless, I think of It, Slingblade, and he had a small part in the Araki trilogy entry Nowhere.

Also like They All Laughed with Dorothy Stratton.

I guess it's a lesser known movie, but one of my favorites of his is Real Men , with James Belushi. Love this movie, but my wife and I'm guessing most people do too. I miss John very much.:(

Jack Tripper is right up there with Barney Fife, George Costanza, Ralph Kramden, I think that's all that needs to be said about how great John Ritter was

Ironically I run a fan page for John on Twitter. Always loved his physical/slapstick comedy. I also miss John Candy and Sam Kinison.

He was actually kind of a straight man in that with all of the other zany roles like Junior and Gilbert Gottfried's character.

Actually, there were a lot of pretty good actors in the adult roles, but the clunky dialog throughout the entire miniseries sounded a bit better coming from the kids.

  24. Me too. John Ritter was terrific in his small role.

Yeah, I worked on that film. The director told me that Ritter had some (ahem) bad habits at the time that made him a little hyper on the set, and it was a chore to get him to tone down his performance and go for something more subtle and heartfelt. He felt Ritter was too much of a broad "sitcom" guy and that drama was hard for him to handle. But he did pretty well in the role and it came out well in the end. Sharon Gless is always a class act, a total pro and a very nice person.
