With all of this talk about Simon and Garfunkel, the Paul Simon box set, etc., I was wondering if it's about time to dust off this Tv special for DVD ?

I was reading an account of it's production, in an autobiography by Charles Grodin, titled, "It Would Be So Nice If You Weren't Here...My Journey Through Show Business".

It's NEVER been reshown on Tv, or ANYWHERE, for that matter, since the original broadcast.

    Anyone remember it ?

I have a tenth generation video copy, barely watchable.

The in the studio stuff is really cool, espacally the "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright" vocal overdub session.

It was quite a remarkable special for Tv, at that time.

Grodin recalls the trouble, the special had, with the initial sponsor, AT&T.

They were expecting the usual show from "the boys", you know...a few songs, a few gags, special musical guests, and a few more songs, etc..

I don't know about the songs, but it was made to showcase "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" release. Alan, get that copy out !

Basically, it was to be a show that was about "ideas", and their personal feelings about the "issues of their times", in a subtle, artistic, visual way.

Contrasted with the traditional shoe-bizzy way of doing it, it was quite an accomplishment. It must have hit it's mark by being "different", as it was
"buried" by everyone, for all of this time.

This is Songs of America we're talking about, right?

I agree...time for a DVD of this, and maybe a soundtrack CD as well.
