Is 'Tomorrow Never Knows' the most covered song in Art Rock? I have versions by the Beatles, Mark Nine, 801, King Crimson, Sheila Chandra and Tangerine Dream. I like them all. Something else out there I should know about? I can hear Bill Nelson singing it in my head, is that just my imagination (running away with me).

    1970s English Art-Rock
This makes perfect sense as a genre to me. And some prime examples that have not yet been mentioned would be:
    Curved Air
    Pilot
    Supertramp
    John Cale
    Stackridge
    Alan Parsons Project

A great example of experimental side of the Seventies' English Art Rock.

You should post a 70s Prog thread instead as Art Rock is not a genre.

Musical genres are abstract ideas, Rock. Jazz, Art Rock, it's all an abstraction. I broke my guitar by bashing it into my amplifier, that would be a good representation of a fact. As per Sventonio, well who knows?
Art Rock isn't Prog Rock, which isn't Psychedelic Rock, which sometimes isn't rock at all.

Let’s see... for me David Sylvian is art-rock. Certainly not prog.

Sorry mate but a list of defined and agreed upon categories is a fact not an abstraction.

Yes it was (is) a genre [Art Rock = Pop Rock with a huge artistic approach]. And you you gave me an excuse to post this beautiful video as an example of the genre!

Be-Bop Deluxe Ships In The Night /Fair Exchange (live tv appearance, BBC 1976)

Genesis we're art-rock back in the day. Definitely were not considered alongside bands like ELP and Yes. Somehow all that is forgotten now.
