It took a long time, but The Cretones’ debut album Thin Red Line finally came out on CD a while ago. But unless something has changed recently, I don’t think their second LP Snap! Snap! ever has.
For that matter I'm not sure anything on Planet ever made CD, other than the Plimsouls album. Ditto for Mike Chapman's Drealmand label.
Hilly Michaels, Calling All Girls (1980) The title track is one of the better early animated music videos:
A few more Motown albums by some famous folks have never made it onto CD: Four Tops Back Where I Belong Magic Temptations Power Temptations (1981) Back To Basics Syreeta The Spell
The Teenage Head album I'd like to see reissued is their live album Endless Party, which was a fave of my teenage self. A lot of rockin' fun, and the first place I heard "Cock In My Pocket" too.
Vanity's first two albums. One day... Wild Animal and Skin on Skin are two kooky but fun Minneapolis funk influenced lps.
Age Of Chance - Crush Collusion EP Quiet Riot’s two Randy Rhoads era Japan only albums. The Lords Of The New Church - Method To Our Madness (original UK/Europe version)
Neil Sedaka In The Pocket (1980) Neil Sedaka: Now (1981) Come See About Me (1983) Theyre available as vinyl sourced boots but theve never been released officially. Also, "A Song" (1977) and "All You Need is the Music" (1979) have never been officially released either.
Hi - a little disappointing I have to say, it's fairly muddy and at a very low level...certainly no issues here with compression or loudness in general! Sounds to me like it was transferred from a vinyl cutting tape instead of a first generation master. Good to have obviously, but I'd probably try and find the more recent Japan CD reissue instead.
The soundtrack to Dan Aykroyd's 1983 movie flop Doctor Detroit. The two Devo cuts on this have never been released on CD.
Kiss That - Kiss & Tell (Carrere) Fatal Charm - Endangered Species I (Chrysalis) Rikki Sylvan - Silent Hours (Kaleidoscope) Richard Strange - Live Rise (Ze) John Cale - Caribbean Sunset (+ Comes Alive, but only for the sake of completing the collection) I'd also like to see TV Smith's "Channel 5" (Expulsion) and the TV Smith's Explorers album (Kaleidoscope) given full remastered releases - the existing ones sound like needledrops
That's not true. I guess it's a good thing that record labels don't always base what they release solely on unit sales. You also have to remember that we were in a recession during those exact years, and it was one that even hit the record industry. I would say that "flop" is a subjective term here, even though there was a ton of crap released in that time frame. And, you have to remember that there were several basic charts, including pop, Black, dance, and country. The OP is in the U.K., so her situation is different than what we have here in the U.S.. The thing is, a lot of titles, flops or not, were not issued domestically, but, by overseas subsidiaries and indie labels. And, a lot of them didn't stay in print for long if they were. A few have shown up as lossless downloads, but the OP specifically mentioned CDs. Many of those imports are sold in the states, and, of course, many CDs can be purchased through Amazon or other retailers. So... Frankly, I could make a better list for 70s albums that were never released on any digital format anywhere. Anyway, as far as I know, these 80s albums never made it to CD stateside. They may never have made it to any digital format in the U.S.. Here is a list of 80s albums I am interested in: Cameo - Style Tom Browne - Yours Truly Atlantic Starr - Radiance Atlantic Starr - Brilliance Fiona S/T Jermaine Jackson - Let Me Tickle Your Fancy (in fact, all of his Motown albums are missing now) O'Bryan - You And I O'Bryan - Be My Lover Robin Trower - Passion P.S. I notice a lot of posters are listing very obscure albums that sold a lot worse than the ones I posted. A couple of the ones I posted made the top 10.
Am I not right in thinking the digital deluxe of Captured is a set of nasty lossy transcodes? It is on streaming services, at least the tracks I checked out, so I'm assuming it's the same if you buy the digital download.
