It was almost certainly one of these but since I heard them all around the same time period ('65-'66) I can't say which was first. They are all still indelibly burned into my brain. The benefits of having an older brother.

The Beatles - Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out

The Royal Guardsmen - Snoopy vs. the Red Baron

    The Standells - Dirty Water

Peter and Gordon - Lady Godiva

    The Monkees - I'm a Believer

Perry Como's Catch A Falling Star, I think, while having a Saturday morning lie-in in my parents' bed! 1959? 1960? It was hearing the phrase 'catch a falling star and put it in your pocket' for the first time that made me remember it. I definitely remember Lonnie Donegan with My Old Man's A Dustman, and Andy Stewart's Donald Where's Your Troosers? from 1960.

I'm really not sure; I don't remember... I do remember it was bright yellow disc the size of a 45 but had a small spindle whole. It was probably something to do with a little red train "that could", some dumpy egg that fell off a wall "that all the kings men couldn't put back together again", or an old Scottish farmer from the McDonald Clan. E I E I O I wish I could remember.

My mom had a short stack of 45's, so it it wasn't Johnny Mathis downstairs on the tabletop player, it was either "So Rare" by Tommy Dorsey, "Point Of Order" by Stan Freberg (wouldn't have gotten it at all, but would have recognized Dawes Butler from the cartoons), or some mysterious version of "Matilda, Matilda" that was more of a "babaloooo" big-band sound than the Belafonte version (in fact, if the forum hasn't already cleaned-out the garage, my thread trying to track it down may still be gathering dust somewhere in our archives).

One or both of these were from my folks record collection. There is a pic of me with my Dad's headphones on (age 4) and I'm jamming one of these records.

    Ringo Starr - "You're Sixteen"

(distinctly recall being down the street at the house of twin boys, we were listening to the 45 of this in their room jumping from twin bed to twin bed as if we were on trampolines).

Probably just on the heels of that, I can recall hearing "Coconut" by Nilsson. That was most likely on the radio. Good times.

At my Grandparents, I found a bunch of 78's. The one I played first was titled "Alla En El Rancho Grande" and was sung in Spanish. I have no idea who the musicians were. I remember the first lyrics till this day!

I can't be 100% certain but I have vivid memories of hearing these songs in the back seat of my parents 1972 Chevy Monte Carlo, the first new car they ever owned.

The Main Ingredient: Everybody Plays the Fool

    Neil Young-Heart of Gold

The very first SONG I remember hearing (other than nursery rhymes) is "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini".

My parents never played records. I heard that on a radio. I imagined a little girl (i.e. about four years old) in a bathing suit that was way too tight. ;)

Though I'm old, I have never purchased a 45. The first record I ever bought was Whipped Cream and Other Delights, by the Tijuana Brass.

I've bee enjoying people's memories of their earliest heard songs/ albums but yours is absolutely classic.
Imagine this song being the first you remember!
A few have posted that Beatles songs were their first and that's fine. But this beats that.
