I am not one for awards but I would have thought Forever Words deserved a nod, especially You Never Knew My Mind by Chris Cornell.

I don't have to hear it to know what I like. And Egypt Station is a stone cold masterpiece.

That's silly...judging music without having even heard it. Kacey Musgraves' album is beautiful, melodic, well-written pop music that wouldn't have been out of place in the 1970s Laurel Canyon scene. You might enjoy it if you tried it.

And I give Egypt Station (which I listened to with an open mind and heart four times after release) a 5/10.

If you can give Egypt Station only a 5/10 then there's really nothing more to say then.

I agree with Parachute. It doesn't make sense to objectively compare the other albums of the year unless you've actually listened to the nominations.

Another amazing entry for AoTY that I personally prefer to Egypt Station: Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae, featuring none other than Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys as well as Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder and others.

didn't even know the nomination was out.
lil' surprising Taylor Swift is not on any of the major awards...
or has Kacey Musgraves stolen her thunder and taken over her slot ??

in any case, i'm rooting for Kacey as her album is quite good...promising talent indeed :righton:

Beck wins best alternative album award. Naturally it wasn't aired. Kanye probably mad it wasnt given to Beyonce.

Only people I know in this are:

    50. Best Contemporary Blues Album

For albums containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental contemporary blues recordings.

    • PLEASE DON'T BE DEAD
      Fantastic Negrito
    • HERE IN BABYLON
Teresa James And The Rhythm Tramps
    • CRY NO MORE
      Danielle Nicole

    • OUT OF THE BLUES
      Boz Scaggs
    • VICTOR WAINWRIGHT AND THE TRAIN
      Victor Wainwright And The Train
    51. Best Folk Album
For albums containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental folk recordings.

    • WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND
      Joan Baez
    • BLACK COWBOYS
      Dom Flemons

    • RIFLES & ROSARY BEADS
      Mary Gauthier
    • WEED GARDEN
      Iron & Wine
    • ALL ASHORE
      Punch Brothers
...so I hope Danielle and Don win in their respective categories. Down here in the bottom of the list (i.e. awards delivered during commercial breaks or only acknowledged via a graphic) really matter in terms of the amount you can get from a club when the management put "Grammy-winning" in front of your name. But they'll both probably be crushed by Boz and Joan respectively.

Update: Actually both got crushed by Fantastic Negrito and Punch Brothers.

They give out so many awards off the air, what do they even have left to hand out?

Alternative and metal treated like third rate catagories. If they cant throw a crumb to rock acts why should I even tune in?

The Grammys have never meant a thing to me personally and that's not about to change. It is striking to see the demographic shift in such stark relief with the nominations, but not really that surprising by this point.

And since they haven’t been good to rappers the last few years...

I’ll be watching to kill time.
