"Pop," of course, being abbreviated from "popular," 'which recognizes few common stylistic elements as central, as long as the central criteria of "being popular" is met.'
No, the people who are redefining “rock and roll” to only mean the small subset of it that became white dudes making album-oriented rock are the ones redefining the term. Pretending the music largely created and crafted by artists of color now only includes white bands that look like the Beatles is patently ludicrous.
I concur and MJB also has a Great Voice, but Chaka Khan should get in first, as she has the Best Female Voice I have heard(IMO, although realize like Music, Voices can be subjective on which are the Better Ones or the Best).
I’d be curious to know. They are from my generation of music discovery, and one of the few bands of that time that has had a lastin impact and isn’t already in.
Kate Bush would be inducted into my own Music Hall of Fame. If I had read correctly, she also(I assume with assistance from her Parents and maybe Dave Gilmour, who got her early Songs to a Music Label Person that helped her get signed as a Teenager) was smart enough to retain ownership rights to her Songs, where most Music Artists prior to Prince fighting WB, gave up the rights to their own Music in their Contract Deals in exchange for promoting their Albums.
Kate Bush is in a completely different league to the others listed....amazing that she is not already in there.
This is not known to be true. And since the Hall has never been transparent about how it votes, there is no way to verify. I think I'm very safe in assuming that some kind of practice was in place. I do not think that Rush for example, would ever have made the R&RHOF if it had not won the fan vote. Or Chicago or Kiss. However, Dave Matthews Band apparently represented something so heinous that the Rock Hall induction committee just couldn't stomach.
Maybe wait on the top 2 as widows of dead singers haven't resolved all outstanding issues with others involved. Especially Vicki Cornell. Loved to see what the bottom 2 do about estranged band members.
Hmmm... shame you say “Who?” for the artist who is probably the most innovative in that whole list. Check him out - he has dozens of albums. Count myself very lucky to have seen him in a small club back in the early 90’s. A true unflinching artist.
1. Iron Maiden 2. Iron Maiden 3. Iron Maiden 4. Iron Maiden 5. Iron Maiden I wouldn't mind seeing any of the others on the list make it as long as the 5 I listed above get in first. (And if Iron Maiden does get in, Judas Priest will be scratching their heads.)
Hey I am fine with it but Barbra, Cher, Bette have been dismissed for years and years. They should be nominated then.
I saw one of those shows in '79 (Carré, Amsterdam). Wonderful experience, somewhere between rock concert, theater and ballet. I think she was also the first to use those wireless microphones on stage during that tour.
