Can I just take a sec to say how awesome Tower's service is? I know it's common for folks (I'm guilty of this) to bash a mail-order place when things aren't as expected.

Eight days ago, I received some of the Living Stereo SACDs from Tower. One of them had a cracked case, and even though it was factory sealed, the disc was all marked up, like it was on the bottom of a spindle from the production run. Didn't skip, but was a bummer that a disc that I paid for as 'new' looked decidedly used.

So, I put it in a mailer, and sent it back regular USPS one week ago today. No email or phone contact to Tower, just the little tag for returns that comes with your order. Well, today, I get an email, that not only did they get my defective disc, but a replacement disc has already been shipped FedEx 2nd Day to me! Will arrive on Friday, barely a week after I sent the original off.

Now that's what I call amazing service!!

 

I wonder why they shipped the disc in the first place. And you still had to spend the cash to send the disc back

 

Well, the disc itself was factory sealed, of that I am sure. As to why it was marked up, who knows? It just cost a few stamps to send it back, NBD to me. Considering I paid under $8 for my LS SACDs, it surely isn't breaking me. I sure it cost them more than $8 just to 2-day air that sucker back to me

 

I used to work for a shipping company. They get huge price breaks from UPS and Fedex, so figure on taking about 60% off the retail shipping price. What costs us $8 to mail costs them $3.50 or so.

 

Oh I'm well aware. I work for a parts company, I personally arrange for 200+ packages a week to be shipped out. Air freight (overnight or second day) is hideously expensive no matter what. Even as big as Tower is, they probably get 60% off published rates, which would still put a shipment like that in the $10+ range. Some BIG companies like G.E. get flat overnight rates of $5-10. But, of course, this is the exception rather than the rule.
