Rare Beatles record owned by John Lennon sells at auction for £180,000 - Entertainment News from Xposé - Virgin Media Television Just wanted to share.
If anyone would like to donate a bit of money on my behalf, it would be most welcome. That £180,000 has put a dent in my lunch money, and I would rather not eat spam for the next 50 years ...
I remember seeing a newsreel clip of an American reporter in England in early 1964. He was asking an Englishman why they sent The Beatles to America. The English gent's answer: It was payback for all that Spam America sent us during WWII!

I'm not getting my hopes up for 4 sessions discs. I tend to think it'll be 2 also. I just don't want to be disappointed, so I'm telling myself it'll be 2. Maybe Giles & Co. will take a cue from the recent Imagine set and do some cool "Elements" mixes for Abbey Road tracks, and that could be cool too also create stand-alone versions of some of the medley songs... But in the end, I think it'll be a 4 disc set, 1 remix, 2 outtakes, 1 blu-ray. I think it'll be the Let it Be box next year that's as big or maybe bigger than WA50—and that is just 1 year away!
You could be right, with Peter Jackson going over 55 hours to come up with a new movie the hype will be over whelming. LIB50th should be huge in what it contains and sales wise.
I wonder if Jackson's film will be completely separate from the box set, or if there will be some cross over of sorts. It's possible that Jackson's new documentary gets its own Let It Be Naked-style soundtrack, sold separately from the LIB50 Box. Look at Dylan's No Direction Home doc from Scorcese, it got it's own 2 disc soundtrack.
I hope so ,that would be a good way to make more tracks availabe. Just hope they don't plaster his name all over it ala Ron Howard.
Yeah. Ron Howard, the 5th Beatle. George Martin never even got his name on an album cover front, and only in small type on the back, and he actually had something to do with the music. Ron Howard had absolutely NOTHING to do with those Hollywood Bowl tracks (but maybe little Opie went to a Beatles concert in Mayberry?)
Yeah, like different takes/elements edited together...For instance, maybe the soundtrack to Jackson's film gives us an edit of a Beatles version of "All Things Must Pass" combining several takes and vocals using demixing etc, methods that Giles probably would not employ on a more conservative, fly on the wall, LIB50 box set.
I'm sure this must have been discussed before. If so, my apologies. Just listened to the whole remix yesterday, and Helter Skelter really sounds too low compared to both Sexy Sadie and Long, Long, Long. Of course, it's a mastering decision (mistake?) and has nothing to do with Giles' mix. Was it lowered in volume to enhance LLL, which had always sounded muted before?
Well that is superb! Really feels like you are in the room with the Beatles as they are nailing the rehearsal of George's song!
Nice. Saved your post for my iTunes library...wonderful. Of course this track happens to be my favorite "Beatles" solo work. Well done...
