What singers are you at least pretty sure never did drugs or excessive alcohol?

The ones I have so far (could be wrong but pretty sure),

    Bruce Springsteen
    Ted Nugent
    Frank Zappa
    Barry Manilow
    Carole King
Mike Love and Al Jardine from the Beach Boys
The other Robinson from the Black Crowes (brother of the lead singer)
    Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam
    Henry Rollins

    Any others?

    Roy Wood.

Ray Davies hasn’t technically always abstained from drugs or excessive alcohol (particularly not in the early 70s) but has been very straight and unindulgent for the bulk of his career.

The Mael Brothers from Sparks I think, although finding hard biographical info on them is difficult.

(Is it a co-incidence that the above are all among my very favourite songwriters?)

    Proudly pontificating about their abstinence.
Gene Simmons & to a lesser extent Paul Stanley. Though no withstanding there is the famous story about Paul and the Hotter Than Hell cover shoot.

  5. Since you mention Henry Rollins (who wasn't totally clean, at least in the Black Flag days), I'll mention his pal Ian Mackaye, the Minor Threat/Fugazi frontman who coined the term "straight edge" and by all indications has consistently lived by it.

Don't know for certain who it was, but my father used to hang out with the Black Crowes and says of the experience "I have never seen people smoke so much pot in my entire life". You could still be right, just throwing it out there. Not sure if you're even counting pot as a drug here. I just got out of college where it's considered an important part of a healthy breakfast.

    You never know!:D

Olivia’s sugary image was so built up over the years that it was difficult to believe she even used the bathroom.:)

I’m sure she dabbled... She’ll never admit it, but in her industry... I’m mean she was in Xanadu, for heaven’s sake... There was practically cocaine leaking out of the sets on that movie.:)

Eddie Vedder is a huge drinker and pothead. How did he wind up on the list?

Frank Zappa is always on these lists but he was apparently an occasional pot smoker, despite claims to the contrary.

Believe it or not, Jimmy Page was NOT a partaker of drugs during most of the 1960s. During his stint in the Yardbirds, he did not indulge. Of course, things drastically changed in the 1970s while the Zep flew high.

Ray definitely qualifies, but Dave's drug intake during the 60s and early 70s disqualifies the whole band. The first rhythm section of Quaife and Avory seemed pretty straight in the 60s, but by the early 70s the non-Ray members of the group (Dave, Dalton, Avory and Gosling) had become known informally to fans and peers as 'The Juicers' due to their massive and constant intake of alcohol while on tour.
