I don't know many 60's girl group songs, but I'd like to know more - what are some of the best? Post as many as you like!

That Rhino girl group collection in the fake hat box is stellar.

And now it's a Beatles thread. Or something like that.

I used to dismiss all of the girl groups because my aunt played Leslie Gore and the Angels on overkill repeat.

That changed when I watched the opening shot sequence to "Mean Streets." My god...

I'll second this. It has lots of quality lesser-known tracks.

But if you just want the hits go for the Rhino Best Of The Girl Groups compilations (I think there are 2 volumes). These were the biggies and it's a good cross section with a few worthwhile obscurities thrown in (i.e. Evie Sands' I Can't Let Go)

Shangri-Las - "Give Him a Great Big Kiss" has one of the coolest intros (and outro) of ANY record.
"Out in the Street" is another of their great ones

The two Rhino Best of the Girl Groups CDs do the trick for me. Here's the track list of the first volume:

about 10 years ago - I put together my own CD compilation called 'Sixties Girls' - the following year I put together a Volume Two.

as of 2012, and much mastering fun and comparisons later - I was up to Volume 8!

I could probably quite easily put together two more volumes and make it a round 10!

The Ronettes and The Crystals are my favorites.
Perhaps the only ones I really do like.
They were the most consistent of all the other girl groups.
I like almost everything by them.

A song or two here and there is about all I like from the some of the other girl groups.

    Mary Wells I like too.

The Luv'd Ones were an actual girl band, not just a vocal group. The leader later was the guitarist for Billy Cox's Nitro Function.
