    Happy Together”
    The Turtles

“Happy Together" is a song by American rock band The Turtles from their third studio album Happy Together (1967).

The song was written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon, former members of The Magicians.[1] It had been rejected a dozen times before it was offered to the Turtles, and the demo acetate was worn out.[2]

“Released as a single in February 1967, the song knocked The Beatles “Penny Lane” out of the number one slot on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remained atop the chart for three weeks.[1]

It was the group's only chart-topper in the United States. "Happy Together" also reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart in April 1967 and number 2 on the Canadian Top Singles chart in Canada.”

Bob ... Changed the way folks thought about pop/rock song lyrics and probably accidentally also changed the way folks thought about music videos

    “Green Tambourine”
    The Lemon Pipers

“A song about busking, Green Tambourine was written and composed by Paul Leka (who also produced it) and Shelley Pinz. It was the biggest hit by the 1960s Ohio based rock group, as well as the title track of their self-titled debut album.

The song was one of the first bubblegum pop chart-toppers.”

“Released toward the end of 1967, it spent 13 weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 1 on February 3, 1968, and sold over a million copies. The record remained on the chart for three months. It was also the first U.S. No. 1 hit for the Buddah label.”

Good point. In that case, I'll list two -- one for the early-60s and one for the late-60s:

    "Bobby's Girl" -- Marcie Blane (1962)
"Green Tambourine" -- The Lemon Pipers (1968)

To me, this just seems like a random list of songs that were released in the 1960s.

I Saw Her Again Last Night by Mamas and Papas

Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In by the 5th Dimension.

Glorious, joyful mainstream pop that couldnt have happened in the 50s and would have sounded very different in the 70s.

  18. "Reach Out of the Darkness" by Friend & Lover. The sentiments could be seen as sort of '70s as well, but this is fully on topic for both its production and its gratuitous use of "groovy" and "getting together".

Maybe. But I think all the songs mentioned have a strong 60s vibe - House of the Rising Sun, Light My Fire, Eight Miles High...

99% of ALL songs written in the 60's have a "60's vibe" unless they were being 50's retro style etc or the heavy rock from 1969 which seems more 70's. All the rest are 60's in every shape and form. So basically a pointless thread for people just to list their fave 60's songs

My interpretation is more like, "this song is stuck in that decade and really wouldn't resonate with people today". Lots of the songs mentioned have had staying power through the years and have remained popular.

Nope, songs like The End, Blackbird, Velvet’s whole discography, etc don’t have a characteristically 60s sound. They are the exception, I’ll give you that!

Can you imagine Time of the Season being a hit in the 70s? Or the 90s?! It belongs to the 60s!

I don’t know about that. The Airplane songs mentioned belong irrevocably to the 60s and yet they are still popular. Also...songs like Twist and Shout...
