what are some good 70's crime movies? I've seen Godfather, French Connection, The Getaway, Death Wish, Dirty Harry.
    which ones do you like?
also, are there any good 70's Euro crime/Poliziotteschi movies worth seeing?

Any of the 70s Dirty Harry movies. The first is still the best, but the two 70s sequels were entertaining. I also really liked The Gauntlet starring Clint Eastwood.

Those first three films are essential! As much of a Walter Hill fan as I am, & as much as I love the Warriors, it pales a bit compared to the first three.

I recently saw 'Straight Time' (1978) starring Dustin Hoffman and thought it was very good.

Along with some of the others already mentioned, I’m a big fan of the Canadian film The Silent Partner, with Elliott Gould and Christopher Plummer (plus John Candy, pre-SCTV, in a small role). It’s a great film that isn’t that well known, I think, though its profile has been raised in the past few years. Curtis Hanson, who directed L.A. Confidential, wrote the script.

Plummer is a criminal casing the bank where Gould works as a teller. Gould figures out what Plummer is doing, and… I won’t spoil the rest. It’s a great story.

Someone mentioned it already, but just to emphasize: "the Friends of Eddie Coyle" is a great and highly unusual film.

Another one that gets overlooked is "Report to the Commissioner." Very dark, very strange; flawed in some ways, but lots of great elements that make it absolutely worth watching.

I just watched "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" for the first time, indeed interesting movie. Sadly ironic title too.
I watched "Night Moves" also, a pretty good movie.

Speaking of Gould... there's The Long Goodbye. Featuring baseball legend Jim Bouton, who does a fine job.

I like The Lady In Red a great deal, But Dillinger is pretty much incredible. Warren Oates burns up the screen as John Dillinger, & the supporting cast is simply 1st rate. But, when you have Ben Johnson, Richard Dreyfuss, Harry Dean Stanton, & Geoffrey Lewis in the supporting cast, it's gonna be great!

Add in a great script by John Milius, as well as his 1st job directing, & you've got a damned great movie.

As much of a fan of Michael Mann as I am, Public Enemies, his take on the story just failed in comparison. It was good, but far from the greatness of Dillinger.

I've seen all those other than Prime Cut, (I need to rectify that), & besides being extremely disappointed in The Killer Elite, all the rest are very good to essential 70s crime movies.

I'm going to single out Framed for right now though. Reuniting Walking Tall's star & director in Joe Don Baker & Phil Karlson respectively, along with it's producer, screenwriter & editor, it's a well written & directed, perfectly brutal Southern fried neo noir tale of revenge. John Marley is great in it BTW.
